Day 8 continued! Stratford is such a magical place, stepping back in time and walking the same floors as the Shakespeare family was almost an unbelievable experience. Son of a Glover grown up to be the world's most revered writer to ever live, how incredible to be there and see it for myself. I can't wait to one day go back and fall in love with this place all over again! Day 8~ I cannot even begin to express my delight when I came across this bevy of swans! This was in two places, the swan in the river was outside the Church of the Holy Trinity where Shakespeare and his family are buried. The rest are all adjacent to @thersc Swan Theatre, very much living up to its name. One of the locals gave me some seed to feed them and I got one to eat right out of my hand! The wonders of nature never cease to enchant and amaze. Day 8~ The grounds of Hall's Croft were beautiful! There was even still remnants of Dr. John Hall's medicinal herb garden that he used to treat patients. Day 8~ Moving on to Hall's Croft, the home belonged to Susanna Hall and her husband Dr. John Hall, Shakespeare's eldest daughter. She later moved to New Place when he passed and left everything to his daughter's. A great deal of the furniture is 16th and 17th century, as well as many of the paintings hanging in the home. I really loved how this was staged to look as if Susanna and her family would be back from town any moment with the tables set and waiting for them to arrive. Day 8~ Continuing through New Place, it was so fascinating to see the mockups of what the clothes Shakespeare, Anne Hathaway (his wife not the actor 😂) and their children. The signet ring and wax seal were really interesting, so crazy to think it was probably used all the time. I also stopped in the school where Shakespeare would have gone as a boy. Day 8! Final day was spent taking a walk through time at the various places of significance in Shakespeare's life. Shakespeare's New Place was bought for 120£ in 1597 when he was 33 years old. It was a gorgeous estate and one of the largest in the burrough at the time. All of his family and staff lived comfortably and it became a place where many of his plays were supposedly written. The iron desk is where it is belived his would have been in the older (no longer standing) parts of the estate. What a end to day 7! Front row @thersc was 9ne of the most amazing performances I have ever seen! I have many thoughts about Taming of the Shrew in terms of content and context, but that belongs in an essay. The performance itself was incredible. I had seen several of the same actors in a screening of As You Like It (my favorite comedy, I can talk about it forever) and it was so amazing to see them up close on stage! Everything from the staging, to the lighting, and the gorgeous costumes and sets, made this an unforgettable experience. Day 7~ Stratford town, absolutely charming in every way! Sadly I had just missed the Death day celebration by a week or so. It's so crazy that Shakespeare died the same day he was born, April 23rd. Also, I love the fact my orginal due date was the 23rd, destiny calling I say! So many of these structures remain from the time of the Bard, spellbinding to say the least!
