So, one of my favorite podcasts is My Brother My Brother and Me, and I was listening to the one that came out today, a live show from MaxFunCon (MBMBAM is part of the Maximum Fun network of comedy podcasts: thus the name of the convention), and I had to pause because one of the audience question askers was someone who identified themselves as Solomon, and like, I was like, your voice, I’m pretty sure -

- and then they mentioned that the comic they draw, that they were asking for advice about with regard to Patreon tiers, was Goldy and the Bears, and I was like “!!!!” because I know that comic.

I remember finding it when I was researching various NSFW comics and indie comic artists in general to see if/how I could get people to pay me for art, and sadly I never got around to reading much of it because I was frankly overwhelmed at how many indie comics (NSFW or otherwise) there are out there, that do have revenue sources (and intimidated by their quality, seriously, I had to rethink a few things, and I’m pretty sure I need a tablet to draw on because scanners are bulky and besides: layers are the best), but I remembered this one looking promising - I am rambling, but um, I was excited about knowing who someone was among the other MBMBAM fans out there, and like, I know a lot of times I want to call them up or ask them a question just to remind them that “hey, trans people exist”

...which is a frustration not limited to MBMBAM, but anyway, the artist who asked the question, who does Goldy and the Bears, is trans, or, I don’t know if they specifically identify as trans, but they’re non-binary, so like, either way, my people,

and I paused the podcast and looked up the comic on my phone and I was like, yes, correct, that is exactly the comic I was thinking of, and I’m just really excited now.

Like, a well-known-but-only-in-certain-circles podcast I love, plus a well-known-but-only-in-certain-circles (at least I think?) erotic comic I’m interested in, plus a trans question asker who I’m pretty sure any trans person listening would be like, “hey this person, this person is probably trans,” because we have the Secret Codes and all: these are a few of my favorite things, favorite subculture/underrepresented minority things anyway, and yes. Very excited.

Despite the, I imagine, relatively small Venn diagram intersection of people who are interested in all of the above, I think most people can relate to seeing a combination of their niche interests, unrelated to each other, all in one place. Or hearing, in this case. Like if [indie artist you like] does an album cover for [indie band you like] featuring [reference to a thing you like or are that you don’t see referenced often]. That’s fairly universal, right? Especially for nerds and queers and people of color and fans of indie/amateur/niche/subcultural [art, hobbies, music, etc]?

Now I fully expect Questionable Content (by Jeph Jacques) to namedrop someone like gyzym in a strip about conlangs - or something along those lines. (It could happen, right?)
