‘Seagull in Clover’ six colour screen print in an edition of 20. Printed on hand torn 25cm x 35cm Fabriano Rosapina.
The orange clover layer has some gold in the ink and has a nice subtle shimmer which can’t be seen in the photograph.
The layers are all hand painted using true grain and gouache washes. The line drawing is posca fine line on acetate.
I prefer this way of working over using photoshop and think the effect is nicer. It’s also more like the kind of thing I was doing before I stopped making work a few years ago, but more grown up!
The original photograph used as reference was taken on holiday in Ireland a few years ago. I have many photographs from this and subsequent trips and will create a series working in this way.
