First two images are ‘Rose Leaves’ direct contact cyanotype with pale olive green screen print detail onto A4 Fedrigoni Tintoretto Crystal Salt paper. This paper gives a really lovely shade of blue which is hard to capture in a photograph.
This paper is REALLY nice but it’s very white so may not be suitable for mounting. I’m limited with mount card choice as cyanotypes require unbuffered mount board and there’s a limited amount of colours. Texture-wise it’s quite similar to the Bockingford anyway.
The second two images are ‘Rose Leaves II’ which is again a direct contact cyanotype and the details are screen printed in a pale olive green/gold ink mix. This one is printed on 25cm x 35cm Bockingford Watercolour which is fast becoming my paper of choice. [SOLD]
I’m really pleased with these two images, the photographs don’t really do them or the colours justice but they do look great in ‘real life’ and look really good framed. I will continue with these and create a small edition. They’re more ‘abstract’ than I was originally planning, but I enjoy process and going in directions I normally wouldn’t.
One other limitation of cyanotypes is that I haven’t successfully exposed using the lights set up for screen printing. I’ve had no problem so far using the sun and have been exposing all my prints that way. Although this means I’ll only be able to create cyanotypes for a couple more months.
