Old art re-draw! 2024 vs 2015

And also an introduction to one of my oldest mlp ocs ever, Water Angel💧 This is her s5 finale war form that I made back when that episode aired (2015)

So short info about the art itself:

I still really like the old piece but I felt like there were some parts that I could improve on. Her wings are my biggest issue with the original. I made them too thin and bendy in an attempt to not hide Angel's body. While the new wings aren’t perfect I still tried to make them a bit more realistic even if it meant hiding most of her front legs and chest.

The original was made to look cleaner and “prettier” than I made the new version. To make Angel look less like a model posing for a picture and more like a soldier I stretched the pose out to make it look more natural. Kind of as if she is about to fly off. In the old version Angel is more compressed much due to the restricting canvas size. While I can appreciate the “sensual” expression she has in the original I wanted to lean away from that in the new drawing. To do this I closed her mouth and added some subtle emphasis on her furrowed eyebrow. I think I managed to make her look more irritated/stern, what do y’all think? Furthermore I added some weight to her forelocks, made her scar a fresh cut and gave her some very minimal dirt to her exposed body. I could’ve gone all in but felt I didn’t want to stray too far from the original.

Otherwise I didn’t change much, just added some weight to the fabric of her jumpsuit. It’s not 100% accurate to the show version but I might draw Angel in that uniform in the future ;)
