Bauhaus - The Bela Session EP
Bauhaus have just released a new EP, The Bela Session, which is a remaster of the bands first release from 1979. This is the first time that Bela Lugosi’s Dead, in the full version has been availalbe on vinyl for thirty years. The EP also includes four other tracks, three of which have never before been previously released in any format. The Bela Session arrives as part of a whole suite of celebrations for Bauhaus’ 40th anniversary.
Bela Lugosi's Dead song was the band's first single and was released on 6th August 1979 by the wonderful but sadly now dead record label Small Wonder. It is often considered the first gothic rock record.
Bauhaus were an English post-punk / gothic rock band, who formed in Northampton, England in 1978. The group consists of Peter Murphy (vocals, occasional instruments), Daniel Ash (guitar), Kevin Haskins (drums) and David J (bass). The band was originally named Bauhaus 1919 in reference to the first operating year of the German art school Bauhaus, although they shortened the name within a year of formation.
Bauhaus broke up in 1983. Peter Murphy began a solo career while Ash and Haskins continued as Tones on Tail and, later, reunited with David J to form Love and Rockets. Bauhaus eventually reunited for a 1998 tour and again from 2005 to 2008. They are currently re-united and touring to celebrate their 40th anniversary.
