You were my friend and I loved you. When you asked me to kill, I killed. When you asked me to love, I loved.
We were like brothers, bound by blood. We were soulmates, in a way. But even soulmates, sometimes, drift apart.
I loved you, Hrogni. I loved your smile, and I loved your courage, and i loved how you wouldn't bow to the king in Ink, and how you fought bravely.
History might call you a fool. But I piss on history. You were my friend.
A friend that got inspired by ideas of grandeur. A friend that got lost on his path.
It started slowly. At first, at the coronation, you were indeed the Good King Hrogni. A beautiful prince with a smile so radiant it hurt my eyes.
A few years later you grew weary. Tired. Heavy is the crown, I understand it now, but you didn't ask for help. You pushed us away, one after the other, until I was the only one left by your side.
Your father hated the Laangfisk, and you wanted to be someone else. But day by day, you were turning just like him. Paranoid. Hopeless. Cruel.
You bowed when the king asked you for a second time. You were so afraid of your own people that you sacrificed your honor. Your pride.
It wwas the day you died, in my eyes. A slow and painful death. You lost weight. You lost that light in your eyes. Soon you were a ghost but i still served you.
I was the executioner. Your executioner.
But then you started after your subjects. You wanted more gallows, more death, rivers of blood in the entire kingdom if necessary. And you asked me too much, you asked me to do it. To kill our citizen in your name. To bathe in their blood while you were basking in your glory.
What could I have done, with this monster you were becoming day by day? I know that, in a way, I created you. I've let you be a monster too many times.
Finally your ordered, privately, an end to the monarchy. You asked us to forget the ways of our ancestors. You wanted the same people that you killed, that you hurt, to choose their new leader. They would've never chosen you, you knew that.
You wanted to live in hiding, like a coward.
The Good King Hrogni was no more.
I held your head in my arms and cried like a child.
