re: exotics, what about rehab and rescue animals? My grandma has a beautiful macaw named Quinn who was rescued from an illegal seller overseas and then from an abusive owner — are exotic pets from those sorts of situations alright with all the right paperwork n stuff or should they be avoided altogether?

exotic birds like macaws should only be rescues - if your grandma was willing to take one on, that’s fantastic! there’s an epidemic of abandoned parrots needing homes in North America because providing the bare minimum for their care requires such intensive effort :/

however, I see a lot of folk using the “rescue” excuse to justify people with mountain lions in their living rooms. a reputable wildlife rehabilitator or sanctuary would NOT allow free-contact like that & would have a suitable enclosure, so be super wary of that content.
