You ever find an absolute banger of a track in the entirely the wrong place? Bloodhound Gang have spent years being a comedy act and quite frankly, really fucking good at it. At a time when we had bands like Presidents of The United States of America and to a lesser extent Cake, we were kinda spoiled for comedy acts. I dunno why. Maybe a reaction to the nihilism of grunge? A spit in the face of the self pity of nu metal? That’s an entirely different can of worms to open. But the Bloodhound gang is what we got from this time period. He’s not black like black like Barry White, but white like Frank Black is. Glad he cleared that up for us one time.

Anyway. Something Diabolical. A slow track with synths that slow the whole tempo and creates an expectant tension. Something is coming and we are not too sure what it could be. Spoken word verses rapidly shifting from left to right speaker so the voice is surrounding us the whole time. And that chorus. Heaven may be running on empty but the devil rides. Sounds so much more powerful when it is actually sung after the disorientating spoken word verses. One more spoken verse and a slow, anticipation filled instrumental plays before the closing chorus comes in. Something diabolical. Tonight belongs to him.

I love this track cause it’s just so unexpected from this band. Bloodhound Gang have always had an incredible talent but very rarely did they let it shine in a non-comedy track. Hearing them express themselves in a track that lacks all comedic value is a very rare treat for the ears. A dark synth track anticipating the raise of the dark lord is perhaps what you need to start knowing Bloodhound Gang for.
