Something So Magic!!
I don't know if you're familiar with the 1958 movie Bell, Book, and Candle, but it's campy, and ridiculous, and I love it. Kim Novak plays a witch who uses magic to seduce Jimmy Stewart's (of all people) character away from his fiancée. There's a meddling cat. Jack Lemmon plays the bongos. It's bananas.
Anyway, I was rewatching it in anticipation of spooky season and was struck by the reverse Haladriel of it all. It was originally going to be for Hellghoul Week, but it started to spiral way beyond 3k one shot territory so I shelved it to come back to at a later date.
I mean tell me this isn't Sauron...
So for context, in this one Halbrand is the one with magic, and Galadriel is the object of his affections. This snippet is from part of their meet cute.
“You’re over-watering these.” The pretty blonde pokes at the soil in the wilting plants lined up along the windowsill. “Am I?” She turns to face him as he emerges from the small kitchenette, the perfect bow of her mouth twisted into a frown. “Yes, you should only be watering them a couple of times a week.” He tosses her a sheepish grin. “I don’t have much of a green thumb. That’s more my sister’s thing. She keeps giving me the damn things, and I keep killing them. Can I make you some tea?” “No, I wouldn’t want to be a bother.” “No bother. I was already making some.” He holds up the kettle he was definitely not already using. His hastily muttered heating charm spreads too quickly through the iron, and he barely stifles a wince when steam starts to coil from the spout a moment later, scalding his hand.
