In weak flickering candlelight, Marylin turned pages of old, partly crystallized book that rest over her crossed legs, slowly and gently causing as little noise as possible. At times, she raised her head and gazed around securing her safety in that dangerous area of ill meaning monsters and the master who was told about still thirsting for new research.
She had found a small room behind a bunch of fallen bookshelves, partly blocked by crossing crystals with a human size entrance. It was dark but nice little hide she trusted to be safe in, a place she could eventually fall asleep in without a fear. Yet, that was not possible, not until she becomes comfortable with the multiple noises of unknown source that bounced around the acoustic walls all the way from long hallways. As she started to get used to the low, echoing mumble and growl, a sudden change in volume made her startle in fear, as well as hearing any new noise her primeval senses alerted her.
She picked up the little flame with her hands and peek out- only to see nothing. So much she tried to convince herself it would be safe to allow herself to sleep- her most primeval senses of a human being prevented her. What she did hear now was lazy trotting of crystallized men, some odd speak and sometimes the heavy, beastly breathing along with a purring growl. Once that soft, if not even comforting noise, turned into blood chilling roar of a predator. She pressed her back against the wall, swallowing. Whatever had caused it, had unrest the residents, the slow steps had turned quick running and the discussion of odd language was gone. Even some loud yelling was heard but for her luck, they all were farther in Archives, and she was safe there in her little nest. But she couldn’t help her curiosity- what was going on there?
The sounds had now faded, while she had tried to relax herself while examining the book she actually understood some words about- what was left was eerie ambient sounds of crystal room. It lasted for some while until she was able to hear really faint steps somewhere far- even mumbling. Comfortable ambient that finally allowed her to close her tired eyes and relax, falling asleep the book open on her lap, while the flame of the candle eventually set off.
