yyyjh is great because it gives you such a direct look into zs' song-selection process.. most of which is easy enough to figure out in the first place, but yyyjh lays it all out on the table, you know?? particularly yyyjh2, since zs has been very straightforward about his vocally challenging song + 舒适 song per ep bundle deal. imo he 突破ed too well in s1 and so there's really no hope for a proper 突破 theme rn (although some artists cld take some notes) (side-eye), but the musical theatre element of these recent stages has decidedly characterised his yyyjh2 stages in my eyes
one of the things i love about zs is that he always has a purpose behind every performance/something to convey to the audience, and i appreciate how the more vocally challenging yyyjh2 songs have allowed him to hone that message into a specific character per song!! i mean we have yao e zi and 血腥爱情故事 and 易燃易爆炸 and 再见萤火虫/Digital Bath and 听见下雨的声音 and can i say 月弯弯 is this a safe space anyway he's had performances with a high level of 故事感 but rarely the space for his storytelling to coalesce into a specific character?? but with yyyjh2 came 造物/象人/爱丽丝卿.. soooo 音乐剧性 .. theres people in there theres characters
and when it comes to picking 舒适 songs you can tell that his favourites r either 'please don't forget me even if i'm only with you for a little while' (a la 忘了我 from s1, 等雨停 你的心 是否会放晴 / 未曾有幸 能陪你到天明 from 雨季又来临) or 'i'm pretending away the pain' (a la 眼泪流下来我会假装作很高兴 from 告别旅行) whichhhhh ok zs i know what you are. unsubtle man.
of all the things he's said in the post-ep vlogs, i think "你觉得你写这样比较深度感者是比较叩问人家想法的歌你会不会觉得有点孤独？" (@ 象人's songwriter) (x) stood out to me bc lonely????? specifically???? it feels like such an intimate look into how zs approaches his own performances... the 深度 of 记忆商店 or 重启 from 反深代词 being abt a single character's struggle (-> lonelier) (which is why 请我不改 was such a good subversion) + 叩问人家 songs like 蜃楼 that don't have a main character/subject at all VS songs that have more answers than questions (i wldnt say 'shallower' ofc but i wld say hmmm 'the products of introspection' rather than 'introspective'?? the introspection has alrdy happened) like 嗨 or 没关系 which involve multiple characters (-> less lonely)
