God is a Father
Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are? --Matthew 6:26
What words come to mind when you think about your father? When I think about my father, I think about someone who is always there for me, someone who protects me, someone who provides for me, loves me, and wants the best for me. I know that my dad will support me and encourage me when I come to him hurt, troubled, or afraid. I have no doubt that my father loves me, and I trust that he will take care of all my needs.
“You parents—if your children ask for a loaf of bread, do you give them a stone instead? Or if they ask for a fish, do you give them a snake? Of course not! So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him.--Matthew 7:9-11
For someone who holds their earthly father in such high regard, I do not understand why it is sometimes hard for me to think of God, my Father, so positively. I trust that my dad will take care of me, with his limited resources, so why do I lack in the Creator of Heaven and Earth. I never doubt that my father loves me, but why do I sometimes doubt the love of God? Why do I sometimes question whether He really knows what is best for me? It is astonishing to realize how many lies I believe about God and His character. Today, I am going to reflect on the significance of God being my Father. I am a child a God and He loves me dearly.
See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are! --1 John 3:1a
