I bought a couple of records for my birthday: the soundtracks for Black Widow, Uncharted, and this classic: Anne of the Thousand Days. In the 9th grade, my English teacher, Mrs. Gessel, introduced us to Romeo & Juliet with a lesson on the Tudors. Part of that was watching this film, which was my gateway to history for fun and the story of Anne Boleyn. I read every book I could on her. I wrote my first research paper on her and, eventually, my first produced play. This movie started me on this road. Genevieve Bujold and her gorgeous French Canadian accent gives one of my two favorite portrayals of Anne (the other is Claire Foy in Wolf Hall). I love this movie for being exactly the right level of over the top. And I guess it changed my life? Thanks, Mrs. Gessel.
