Okay man, here we go.
Young adult books about finding self and stuff:
So B. It by Sarah Weeks (It’s about a young girl who is raised by her mentally disabled mother and a neighbor who is afraid to leave her home. It’s really good and a quick read.)
Sleeping Freshmen Never Lie by David Lubar (This one is less serious. It’s more of a look at high school and learning who you are and who others aren’t.)
A Mango-Shaped Space by Wendy Mass (Okay, this isn’t like the greatest novel of all time but it’s good. It’s especially good because it’s about a girl who has synthesia and it’s super interesting. I have synthesia so maybe that’s why I liked it a lot.)
Heartbeat by Sharon Creech (It’s been a while since I read this but I think it’s written in poetry format. It’s about a girl learning about herself basically. I thought it was really good.)
Wonder by R.J. Palacio (I read this recently. It’s about a deformed boy trying to go to public school for the first time. It’s pretty good.)
Fantasy type books:
The Beyonders trilogy by Brandon Mull (The first two books are great, I haven’t read the last yet. It’s a great adventure book. There’s not a romance between the two main characters and that’s great for me. I also liked how Brandon likes to put little bits of information about his world. Super interesting. Lots of battles!)
The Fablehaven Series by Brandon Mull (This is another great series. I don’t think it’s quite as great as the previous but it’s still pretty awesome. I love the brother and sister relationship and all the twists and turns.)
Leven Thumps series by Obert Skye (The only problem I had with this was that in the end the main guy character was like magically a lot older than the main female character and that was weird and uncomfortable. Other than that it’s a really cool story with lots of action and a lot of humor. I love Clover.)
Classics
Carmilla by Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu (this is what Dracula was based on. It’s a lot shorter though and I liked it much better. The vampire is a female instead of male.)
Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury (okay this is just a great book aside from the manic pixie girl but whatever, it’s good.)
Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte (It took me a while to get through this but it’s so worth it. Oh man, angst and darkness galore.)
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte (Favorite book of all time. I don’t know, it’s just a great plot.)
Five Little Peppers and How they Grew by Margaret Sydney (Aw, super cute. I don’t really know what else to say.)
There’s a start. There’s so many good books sometimes I just freak out. Have fun with these!
