Oooh man i have so many questions about your ocs doe and mr bupsy. for doe- whats with his head? if his mouth and eyes are on his chest, whats the bit in the wrappings? Does it carry anything important, or is it mostly for appearance? And?? where are his organs?? Hes got lots of lovely goopy arms but i have no idea where the rest of him is. Where does he get food? Foraging, or awkward trips to the grocery store at 3am? (1/2)
Ah dang, thank you for the interest! I love answering goofy worldbuilding stuff about my characters. And in response to your later question, I got both your asks–thanks for checking in, because my tumblr totally does eat them. I just wanted to take some time to answer them properly!
Doe is kind of an oddball creature in that he’s not sure whether any aspect of his anatomy is...intentional, for lack of a better word. He has no idea whether he was a broken experiment, a mutant, an alien, whatever, so he consequently has no idea if he is supposed to look the way he is or if he’s some kind of failure, and all his knowledge of his body comes from (usually painful) trial and error. So he actually isn’t sure where his brain is even located. It mayyyy be in the upper head (more likely if he was previously human), but as most of his critical organs are stored in his chest, he’s not willing to gamble on that.
His upper head does have several main features, namely sensory ones. Aside from the single out-of-place eye, he has a number of heat pits across the front of his face, and the left side of his head is dominated by a grooved nasal structure that allows him his insane scent tracking. There are a ton of delicate wind tunnels in his skull to filter and translate smells picked up through air and water–it’s entirely possible that his ‘head’ could be almost entirely hollow for that purpose.
As for his organs: he has a very minimal system. His heart and lungs are small, as he has a very low demand for oxygen, and located in the chest area along with a vestigial digestive tract. All of his primary organs–stomach, liver, kidneys, digestive system–occur in multiple tiny instances in every one of his secondary tentacles. Each of his delicate, jellyfish-like tentacles is similar in structure to a underwater worm like…a hagfish or something. He can eat and filter toxins through them and they function independent of each other to support his main body. They’ll regenerate if severed/damaged, and in ideal conditions he could theoretically regrow all of them if needed.
He totally has to do the awkward grocery store run from time to time (last customer to arrive before the store closes, pays with a jar of dirty pennies, mumbles to himself the whole time), but mostly he pokes around in garbage or catches rodents to feed himself. He prefers softer food (cause he’s got lots of tiny mouths that are all bad at chewing)with high protein and/or sugar content so he mostly eats rat/fish guts, blood, and juice boxes. HE’S GROSSSSS.
Gonna answer your Bupsy questions tomorrow–thanks for asking about these dorks!
