Liam Payne: First Time Ep (review)⭐️⭐️⭐️
First Time: the first thing I hear is the beat, it has a latino sound to it that gets you in the mood from the start. I personally don’t find the lyrics interesting but I think they match with the music style and it doesn’t change the fact that it’s a good song. vocally, we know liam can do amazing things, it is not showcased here but I don’t think it’s the kind of song where you can go full diva on it. not my fave from the EP, I would have preferred another single BUT they probably chose it because of the collab with French Montana. their voices melt together in a pleasing way and it could do great on the radio. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Home with you: once again the lyrics go well with the genre liam is going for. Instrumentally it’s not my thing but that doesn’t mean it’s bad. the first word that came to mind when I listened to it was “cute”. I don’t have much to say about it.
⭐️⭐️⭐️ Depends on it: I’m just a hoe for the piano so from the beginning it’s already a win and much more my style. The parts where he sings “loving, touching, kissing, f*cking” and “lying, crying, always fighting” are an example of a figure of speech called climax. It helps bringing more intensity to his thoughts and the state of the relationship. It is an interesting songwriting choice, he knows what he’s doing. This is the song I’m more looking forward to hear live. vocally he switches between octaves like a king, this song showcases his vocal ability the most. It made me think of zayn’s style: the piano, the longing, the song’s theme, I could imagine zayn sings that song and it would totally fit in the middle of all his songs. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Slow: It’s a bop! I don’t know why it made me think of a 2000′s song. we can get easily into the rhythm and do a little shoulder dance on it. I can’t wait for thousands of fans to sing the chorus back to him. the sound effects are perfect for a summer hit (missed opportunity here) and I can imagine it being played at a lot of pool parties. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
CONCLUSION: is it possible I’m even more excited for his album? Liam shows he can do dance songs as well as more ‘ballady’ songs. his vocals are here even though I would love to hear them more. I know a lot of people criticize his lyrics but to me they are in tune with his style/genre, it does happen a lot for these type of songs where men fall into the objectification of women and I’m glad liam (obv.) didn’t. I’m happy he’s going to give me the bops I need to have some dance off with my friends. here’s to a good EP and an even greater album 🍾
