Little piece of music for @squaredev ‘s Comfy Jam entry. The end might seem to cut a little abruptly, but that’s because it’s meant to loop.

Thank you! I forgot to put it in the tags, but I used SonarX3 for everything. I saw it on sale on steam a few years ago at like 75-80% off so I decided to grab it as well as some virtual instrument packs. It works well enough, but I hardly ever see anyone even mentioning it, let alone recommending it (probably because it’s Windows only). I don’t have enough experience using other DAW software to accurately judge if it’s better or worse than the others, but for the discounted price I got, it’s definitely worth it.
And a little bit of life story for the second question: when I started high school, I suddenly became interested in music. I started with tenor saxophone in the school’s wind ensemble (one of the reasons why the anime Hibike! Euphonium hit really close to home). The next year, I started piano lessons, and the year after that I dusted off my mother’s old guitar and started to learn it by myself (only campfire stuff, though, just chord strumming and singing). I’ve had a good 4 years where I was really dedicated to learning music.
After that, well... the dedication kinda dwindled and my skill hit a plateau. That’s disappointing, but that’s kind of a life lesson too. Like, when I started playing the piano at around 14 years old, I was always disappointed that I did not start earlier. “I could’ve been playing for years, I could be really good right now, but I didn’t start at the right time” I would think. But that’s pretty stupid in hindsight, right? Because I’m a decade older now and have I used all this time efficiently? No, unfortunately. Back in high school, I was disappointed that I didn’t start a decade earlier, and now I’m disappointed that I had the decade I wanted but did not use it well.
That’s kind of why you always need to look ahead. Think of what you need to do to reach your goals. It doesn’t matter when you started. All that matters is if you are doing what you want right now, or if you are actively working towards it. Looking back, it seems to me like I just wanted to jump ahead and have the skill without working for it. That’s not how it works. Ask for advice from any artist and they’ll always tell you to just practice. There’s no secret solution, you can’t cheat your way in and get good without dedicating yourself. I still feel like my past self wasted time that I could’ve use to get better, but my current self saw the opportunity to compose music and grabbed it because it’s both something that I wanted to do now and something that will help me grow in the future.
The last 2 paragraphs are more rambling to myself than anything, sorry. I guess I really like introspection.

On the subject of music, I kinda wanted to post this. This is a song I did a few years ago for some space game as a university project. I haven’t really had the time to compose anything since then, so I really look forward to start making music again for my current game!
This little loop won’t be used in my game, tho. So if you want it as placeholder music for your demo, feel free to do it. Just ask me first so that I know where it’s used and maybe put a little credit in the demo ;)
Sonar test. #sonarx3
Life is a candle flickering in the wind.
I used a vocoder for the fist time.
Thanks for your listening.
I hope next one will be a cool work.
I’d appreciate it if you reblog this.
I was making this by only the pianos. When I noticed, however, I had used some strings to finish it.
I would appreciate it if you could reblog this.
