transmasc sonic is free. has the freedom to choose how he lives, how he presents himself, and to decide who he wants to be, and who he is. the transmasc sonic headcanon most of the time functions under the assumption that sonic is free to be his true self..
while metal is trapped. forced to function under eggmans rule and do exactly as she's told. never able to explore who she is outside of eggmans image of who she should be - and if she does, she's quickly "fixed". living solely to appease him and follow his command, and try and be something she isn't, but "better". But she'll never be Sonic. Considering their lifestyles, circumstances, personalities, allies and goals, they are almost polar opposites, in fact.
sonic is himself no matter what others think he should be and does things he thinks is right despite how others might not like it. metal is none of that.
I also think the concept of sonic being able to "choose who he is" (idk how to word it better sry) , aka choosing to be himself would make metal only resent him more. Like, you had the ability to choose who you are and you chose to be the thing that I'm forced to be, that I HAVE to be. that I might resent deep inside.
