Day 26 of #marchmeetthemaker | BOOKS, BLOGS & PODCASTS | I always have a podcast or audiobook on the go when I'm crafting on the weekend so these are my personal go-to listens! I've been a fan of Adam&Joe since my very first foray into podcasts in 2008, so I leapt straight on the bandwagon when Adam Buxton began his own series. His interviews with people are funny, insightful, deep and human and his homemade jingles are masterpieces. @radiolab is always informative and interesting, and led by incredibly charming people - covers things like the origins of the metric system, and investigates whether alligators sing to the note of B flat! I love listening to this one when I'm trying to figure out something new. @songexploder talks to musicians and picks apart a choice song level by level, along with stories that accompany the riffs and lyrics - highly recommend if you love music. ID10T (originally known as @Nerdist) tickles the film and gaming nerd in me, including relaxed conversations with some of my favourite creators and actors. Lastly, my audio obsession which has sadly come to an end for the time being is the PC Peter Grant books by @baaronovitch - Rivers of London totally fulfilled the magical urban fantasy loving book geek side of my brain AND MORE with its amazing bits of police procedural tidbits, character and world building. So there you have it! My waffly long post about my personal listening recs - I'd love to have your recommendations for books and new podcasts to fill my days with! #adambuxton #benaaronovitch #pcpetergrant #radiolab #id10t #nerdist #songexploder #podcasts @audible_uk #books #audiobooks (at Salisbury, Wiltshire)
A Powerful in Depth look into a Powerful track
This episode of podcast “Sound Exploder” is about the Lin-Manuel Miranda song “Almost Like Praying” (FEAT. Artists for Puerto Rico) that was written about the terrible hurricane that leveled Puerto Rico over the summer. He wrote the song to both reflect his feeling of the tragedy and to raise money to help hurricane relief. It follows the writing process that Miranda started with in his hotel bathroom all the way to gathering artists to sing on the track. It is interesting to hear the inspiration behind the track and how he decided on all of the sounds on the track. It is a very inspiring look into a song that has such a powerful effect on the public and the outpouring of support for those affected by hurricane. Even if you do not have the time please follow the link and listen to this mini documentary on the Sound Exploder website.
