Hey Songsters! Today I'm gonna give you some quick tips for organizing your song ideas
I post tutorials, songvlogs, and new songs every Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. If that interests you, consider subscribing, hitting that like button, and of course sharing this video on facebook!
After years of songwriting I've tried many apps and hacks for keeping my thoughts organized, and I'm gonna condense down as much as possible for you!
Notebooks. Phone.
That's kinda all I got. I don't have a fancy organization system for my thoughts when it comes to journals and songwriting notebooks and I actually like it that way and here's why.
1.I've tried and tried and tried to make myself more organized and it just never sticks, and when I try too hard, I feel discouraged and I don't want to write anymore because I'm just gonna make a mess of my nice clean journal... If you have ever felt like this... it's not worth. Just be you, baby!
2.I actually think it's a bit more interesting to look back at my messy disorganized thoughts after many months and years of writing. I have still saved songwriting journals from years ago and occasionally look back through them when fishing for inspiration... this is my favorite way to start a song when I don't have any ideas.
3.Let your thoughts flow as they flow. Don't try to fit them in boxes and categories, that time will come, but as your first brainstorming, just work on getting those thoughts on the page. It's kinda fun to see the progression of messy disconnected thoughts to clean organized finished song as you flip from page to page. In some cases I can follow a song seed all the way to it's finished product and that's pretty fun!
Do you have any neat notebook organizing hacks to share? I'd love to hear about them in the comments below!
Phone.
In you phone you have some great tools for songwriting! Including a microphone, and a notebook! My favorite app for songwriting is called Songspace. It's a really clean app that organized finished songs and ideas as well as letting you record on a high quality microphone, and you can collaborate by sharing your songs and ideas with friends.
Of course it'd be easier to organize my thoughts if I were in general an organized person... so you may not struggle with this like I do.
