Incomplete
Pairing: Anaxa x reader
Warnings/notes: implied character death, angst, it is what it is, I’ve had this in my notes 5ever, came from hearing the bsb song incomplete
Word count: ~550
Anaxa never wanted to step foot on or in Okhema. Even the name drips from his lips like a potent poison that pulls at his insides. He retches a bit and covers his mouth with his hand, the bile bellowing up from his stomach; or what’s left of it. The professor can already feel the golden strings of Aglea and Mnestia as he enters the city’s bright lights and overly cheery demeanor. He clenches his fists tighter.
You would’ve loved this, he thinks.
There he goes again, thinking of you when he shouldn’t be. What right does he have to dancing in his mind when the world as he knows it is crumbling? What right does he have to imagine your stunning visage draped in his sheets as he floats in the land of the living? Anaxa barely considers himself alive since losing part of himself and you.
However, losing you truly has him feeling empty.
The dromases haven’t stirred him the same way the did in the past. His stuffed mini dromas lays buried with you; or rather what’s left of you.
You didn’t have to spare his research. The more he ponders it, he would’ve been able to replicate whatever theories he had come up with. He is a scholar after all, it would be mere child’s play to recreate what he’s already thought of. And yet, as the black tide closed in on the Grove you brought him into crushing and passionate kiss. Anaxa could sense it, could sense that you were about to do something completely and unreasonably stupid. His throat could barely form the words he wanted to chastise at you. He watched you mouth the words, “I love you, Anaxagoras,” before he was pushed away by your strong hands. He heard the sound of glass bottles breaking with a concoction to slow the black tide you had formulated. He heard a bloodcurdling scream and then silence.
Against his better judgement he had turned around and went for you. His whole body froze and his heart beat ramped up. Your body was surrounded by members of the black tide army taken down. It was mutual destruction. You sacrificed yourself for him, a Chrysos Heir in line to take Reason’s coreflame. Anaxa had wanted no part of the Flame Chase, but you had encouraged him. And now, as he stared your lifeless body he wants to drain himself of the golden blood in his veins.
Seeing what you had done for him reignites the conviction to do what he had planned. Your sacrifice wouldn’t be in vain. For the Flame Chase, for Amphoreous, for knowledge, for the love of you.
Something tugs at his insides as he approaches the heroes bath. Could it be that he might be aware of what Aglaea might say to him? That he did end up falling for romance and having it? Or is it that you had dreamt of being up here with the heroes of Ohkema and Amphoreous? Everywhere he goes he’s reminded of you. His attempts to forget you in any capacity are met with disaster. Despite being physically incomplete, Anaxagoras had thought losing his sister would make his heart incomplete. It turns out,
Losing you was what he needed to connect to and his own humanity.
