Ring Shout by P. Dejeli Clark is a novella that imagines a world in which the KKK is made up of actual demons and DW Griffith’s film Birth of a Nation casts a curse on America. Our main character Maryse and some friends fight against the uprising with a magical sword!

The Strange Case of the Alchemist’s Daughter by Theodora Goss is about the daughters of some familiar monsters: Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde, Dr. Moreau, as well another of Frankenstein’s creations, and Rappaccini’s daughter. They help out Sherlock Holmes and some other literary characters. I enjoyed the first one, but the second one lost me a little. A little bit of romance, but more in the second book.

for the ship ask, Jokak form JJBA, cause you said you did not like it (neither do i) and i am kinda curious as to why..

I find it kinda overrated, mostly for two reasons.

Disclaimer: This post is not here to attack or put down people who ship it. If you like the pairing, more power to you. I just personally don’t for reasons I’ll say in the read more.

The first reason is that I didn’t really find any chemistry between Jotaro and Kakoyin. To me, they didn’t really come off as friends, just more like acquaintances with their own goals in mind. Sure, Jotaro saved Kak’s life and they do have some minor interactions together, but it’s really not enough for me to say that they are friends.

Personally, I find Kakoyin uninteresting to me. Sure, he might have some badass moments like in the Death 13 arc and has a tragic backstory but it really ain’t enough to win me over. And as a Jobro to Jotaro, he didn’t really felt like one. Like I said, there really aren’t enough interactions between them to make me see them as friends and it makes their relationship feel flat. Especially when Kak gets sidelined around the Egypt arc. I’ve seen some say Polnareff felt more like a Jobro to Jotaro, and honestly, I agree. At least Pol and Jotaro had some interactions together and they did feel like a genuine friendship. Kak and Jotaro don’t have that and every time some fans say they have a good relationship I’m like Bob in that one Bob’s Burger’s episode where he goes “They certainly are, standing right next to each other.”

Speaking of fans, that leads to the second reason why I’m not interested in the ship. I don’t like the way the fandom portrays the ship. Usually, I get into an m/m ship due to the fan content, so even with the weak chemistry, I hoped the fandom made me like jota//kak. However, it made me turn me off from the ship even more.

Most of the content has them either flanderized with Jotaro as an edgy, tuff guy and Kakoyin as the uwu soft boi. While they are like that in canon, there is more to them than that. Jotaro may be an edgy guy but he is a soft person underneath, it’s just hard for him to show it. Kakoyin may be a soft guy, but he does have moments of snarkiness and rudeness. But the fandom seems to only think of one personality for them and it’s every cliched yaoi stereotype.

Another thing I noticed about the content for the ship is how much Kakoyin is put on a pedestal. Nearly all of his content is either focused on him and how he is the only important person in Jotaro’s life. Not just Polnareff, not Avdol, not Iggy, nor his grandfather, just Kakoyin. Joot’s dialogue might as well be summed up in these fan art as “I miss Kakoyin! Where’s my Kakoyin! I don’t care for anyone else, I want Kakoyin, Kakoyin, Kakoyin!!!!!” God, it’s so annoying. Like you two barely had any chemistry in canon, why is he the most important person to Joot at all. It’s stuff like this that soured my likability for Kakoyin and the ship.

I get some do it out of wanting to give themselves more than what canon gave them, but not if it means warping their personalities to make it fit their ship.

And before anyone calls me a dudebro or whatnot, I’m not hating the ship because it’s gay. I’m not a yaoi fangirl and I'm not homophobic, I support LGBT rights. Plus, I have some gay ships myself, like Josuyasu.

At least with that ship both Josuke and Okuyasu have good interactions together that made me feel like they were friends and the fan content for them portrays them in character. That’s something that Jota//kak lacks.

I’m not trying to stomp on people’s headcanons or say Jota//kak is bad or anything. People can do what they want and if they like the ship more power to them. I just don’t find it as great as the fandom makes it to be between the lack of chemistry between the Jotaro and Kakoyin and how much the fandom portrays them as flanderized stereotypes and puts Kakoyin on a pedestal.

I know there might be some fan content that does portray them in character and portrays both characters equally but will how much that well has been poisoned for me, I’m not interested.

of course! it’s not a theory; it’s a conspiracy theory! at no point throughout am i actually serious about any of this!

so we know that langa is half-japanese and half-canadian and that his canadian dad (his,, candadian) was named Oliver. but. what if oliver was greek actually?? what if his name was something like Orpheas, Orestis, or Omiros, and he just changed it into Oliver when he immigrated?

it makes sense ok, there’s a lot of greek diaspora in canada, is it so outlandish to think Langa might be a nickname for Lazaros?

Reading Aquarium then Meteor Impact hurt me. So much. I am a sucker for characters with restricted childhoods getting to explore the wider world/cinderella plots, and I am a sucker for the isolation of the divine and empathizing with the monster so MAN. MAN. MAN.

You have to define what "general plot" means here, but... nnnnnno? He is more like a heavy lore hidden in sidequest chara

Not all time favorite due to competition but On God, thinking about him too much makes me cryscream so ranking may be subject to change

Okay, so they’re doing a thing on Twitter where you run to be the biggest fan of a Type Moon character. I put in a promo to run for Nero and Cu. Someone (the fan of Shinji) quote retweeted it and accused me of being a child molester because I like Nero and Cu. My friends, precious angels who deserve the world, quickly rush to defend me. We learn that this person has repeatedly harassed people before on a different account and started back harassing more people, and people have made a post showing that this person harassed people in the past, and they’re a fan of Type Moon characters who have committed sexual assault. It’s just really made my day terrible, and I already don’t feel well since I’m on the recovering end of the cold or flu.
