👯 Favorite team?

Gonna be horribly predictable and say Team Dark. Like, this has its drawbacks- the 'team' format can get really limiting in which characters are allowed to engage with which, and this can affect Rouge and Omega a lot by making them basically just attached to Shadow permanently.

But for all of how their individual lives could use some more attention, I am enamored by Team Dark's dynamic; they're all people who have reasons to distrust and be wary of each other and because of that pricklier complication their loyalty and solidarity feels like it's given some more emphasis and interest.

For better and for worse, we kind of take it for granted when Tails says he'll stick by Sonic forever; it hits with a lot more weight when Rouge, who is always weighing her odds and what's in it for her, says she's ride or die with Shadow, that she's shifting her 'what's in it for me' to a 'what's in it for us' as her own way of protecting him, or Omega who we know is very proud and very defensive of his own autonomy willingly turns himself off to endure the ravages of a bad future just to be a lifeline to Shadow in a diverged timeline.

I really love a lot of the tumblr comics out there of them being roommates especially roommates who are putting up with each others' idiosyncrasies and unglamorous sides.

📺 Favorite TV show?

Eheheheh admittedly Sonic X takes up the most space in my brain but that's not necessarily a fair shake because I consume media at the rate of an anaconda with a tummyache and Sonic X just happens to be the one I've consumed the most of. There's plenty to critique- the monster of the week format gets old fast, I'd say it's a show better curated than watched every single episode since there's some remarkable standout moments and also entirely forgettable episodes that have not much for you if they don't tickle your funny bone.

(That episode with King Boom Boo though is pretty fantastic.)

I love the settings and backgrounds of Sonic SatAM and for how old it is, it's really ambitious and has a lot of good points; it gets honorable mention here, again, not because I think it's 'worse than Sonic X' but because I just haven't consumed enough of it for it to haunt my brain meat. I will say that I consider its take on Robotnik to be the standout best of the western-style Robotniks. His smooth, relaxed villainy in contrast to the brutal efficiency of what happens every time he gets out of his chair is standout. When the guy's mostly known for his boss fight mechs across continuity, it really stands out when you get an Eggman who is a major threat with just some jet boots and a gun.

29. Met any Sonic friends through the fandom?

I've been meaning to answer #28 for a while, because there's never really one thing about Sonic in general that I like. I like that he's a kind character underneath the surface-level cocky attitude. I like that he has the patience to read books (Something that, I myself tend to struggle with even when I'm in the mood to do). That dude goes on so many adventures, gets to see wonderful sites that I can't fathom half the time. I love how modern, yet fantastical a load of both Sonic's World and Earth can get, and I love how Sonic doesn't feel too out of place with humans (as long as they're drawn/designed to look like him, anyways...). I guess you could say that I still have that deep-seated yearning to be his friend, what with all of my Sonic OCs and whatnot.

As for any Sonic Friends...

This ask meme has been reblogged by @xsailormobian, who had the meme in text format (I changed the formatting, but I credited the user who reblogged this post).  And, since I had not found a decent Sonic ask meme as of now, I will take pleasure into answering all 30 questions.

I will answer as much as I can, since I have answered questions relating to Transformers; and since I am a fan of both Transformers and Sonic, I might as well answer this ask meme.  

Here it goes:

1. “Why did you become interested in Sonic?” - Besides the fact the franchise is based on extraterrestrials, have many different characters with many different complex traits, and contain an anti-hero, the Sonic The Hedgehog franchise shares a lot of things in common with the Transformers franchise (extraterrestrials, different characters, voice actors/seiyuu, styles, etc.), despite the former being set in the 1990′s and the latter in the 1980′s.  I took more interest when I realized Sonic X was an anime (characters speaking English, or throwing in English, comes to mind).  I took even more interest when a particular character has the same seiyuu as a few Transformers I really liked (hint: the character is a hedgehog).

2. “How did you hear about Sonic?” - When I was at a movie store a long time ago (I was around 5 or 6), I came across a character with spikey quills and a signature smile with a pose (it was on a wall in a children’s watch room).  I first heard of the name when an elementary school student was talking about it when playing a computer game featuring the blue hedgehog.  I wasn’t too much of a fan until much later.

3. “How long have you been a Sonic fan?” - Almost a year; I recently became a fan after Transformers.

4. “Favourite male character(s)?” - Sonic The Hedgehog, Shadow The Hedgehog, Silver The Hedgehog, Knuckles The Echidna, Jet The Hawk, Scourge The Hedgehog, Team Chaotix, and Mephiles The Dark (but mostly Sonic, Shadow, and Silver).

5. “Favourite female character(s)?” - Amy Rose, Rouge The Bat, Katella The Huntress, Wave The Swallow, and Sally Acorn (to an extent).

6. “Favourite game(s)?” - Shadow The Hedgehog (2005), Sonic The Hedgehog (2006), Sonic The Hedgehog (1991), Sonic Riders (2005), Sonic Adventure 1 and 2, and any fan game where a character and zone can be created (Sonic Forces is influential, even though I never played the game).

7. “Favourite vocal theme(s)?” - Many, but I took interest with Crush 40′s “Live And Learn” from Sonic Adventure 2.

8. “How much merchandise do you have, if any?” - None.  My cousin, on the other hand, has the games, toys, shows, and books (but not all, of course; though, I wish).

9. “How many Sonic games do you own?” - None; my cousin has the games; that is why I come visit his house.

10. “Got any clothing or apparel?” - Nothing related to Sonic; my clothes have regular (non-pop cultural) styles, or are just simply plain.

11. “AoSTH, Satam or Sonic X?” - Sonic X; with English subtitles; unedited.  Animation and some sound effects remind me more of Transformers: Micron Legend.  Also, Sonic’s English was awesome and funny (depending on how he throws in English).

12. “Archie or Fleetway?” - None of the above; not even IDW.  I don’t read comics as much.

13. “Favourite Sonic form? Pick one.” - Many, but since I have to pick one, I will go with Super Sonic.

14. “Classic, Dreamcast or Modern? Pick one.” - As much as I appreciate Classic, I will go with Modern.

15. “Favourite Sonic level(s)?” - Many; I can’t name just one.

16. “Favourite Sonic soundtrack(s)?” - 1991-1997, Adventure 1 and 2, Shadow The Hedgehog (2005), Sonic 06, Sonic X (Yoshihiro Ike, NOT 4Kids), Sonic OVA, and, to some extent, Sonic Forces.

17. “Favourite Sonic music track(s)?” - I don’t have one.

18. “Got any remixes you like?” - Do 1980′s remixes count?

19. “What do you contribute to the fandom? (art, writing, edits, videos)” - All of the above; fan media included.

20. “Do you closely follow Sonic related news?” - Not as much; I am not particularly into new trends; just what I like (whether old, new, or underrated).

21. “Been to Sonic Boom?” - No.  Next question, please.

22. “Been to Summer of Sonic?” - No; I never heard of it until now…

23. “Got any fan characters?” - Many, but not online.  One of them is Stella Stripes (female; Alignment: Good), the other is Silhouette The Hedgehog (female; Alignment: Evil), and I have a couple on DeviantArt (all female).  I also got many male fan characters (including a falcon whose Alignment is Neutral), as well as fan characters with different genders rather than male or female.

24. “Any artists you admire?” - Many, but mostly the official creators; also the creators of Sonic X.

25. “Favourite voice actor for Sonic?” - My favorite Japanese voice actor is Jun’ichi Kanemaru; I really admire the fact that this seiyuu speaks both Japanese and English, since he was also an English teacher at one point, and I really like Sonic’s quirkiness and fun-loving personality.  My favorite English voice actor is Jason Griffith; it was the first English-speaking voice I heard, and he nearly captured Sonic’s personality nicely.  My least favorite is Roger Craig Smith, since to me, he sounded off, and a little too old; and the creators drastically changed Sonic’s personality as a result, just like how they changed Shadow’s personality since 2010 or 2014.

26. “Favourite official art style?” - Sonic X (similar to Transformers: Micron Legend/Armada), Modern CGI renders, the 2005 game versions, Sonic OVA, and the classic styles.

27. “What do you like about the fandom?” - Extraterrestrials, many different characters, many opportunities to ship, has an anime I really like, seiyuu, and had female villains (Katella The Huntress came to mind; Merlina is a little weak, in my opinion); also, the fandom is very open to fan characters and fan media.

28. “What do you like about Sonic? (the character)” - Fast, confident, knows how to fight, is friendly, is quirky, throws in English here and there (Sonic X), and never gives up.

29. “Met any Sonic friends through the fandom?” - Some, but I don’t exactly remember their names.

30. “Excited for Sonic's next birthday?” - I am actually more excited about a crossover with Transformers (which this is hardly talked about), but I acknowledge Sonic had a birthday (although, to me, he will always be 15 years of age).

There should be more ask memes like this.  In fact, I am for adding many different ask memes for many different fandoms, including Sonic, Transformers, and Spore (there should be at least one Spore ask meme, since I cannot find any).

Sonic Ask Meme!

TAGGED~ Tagged by: @followmyrainbow How long have you been a Sonic fan: Around 2002-2003! First Sonic game played: Sonic 2 on the SEGA Genesis. I had the completely trilogy on the Genesis but Sonic 2 and 1 were easier for me than Sonic 3 and Knuckles! Top 3 Favorite Characters: Knuckles, Sonic, and Sally! They're three characters I relate to the most and see myself in! Favorite Vocal Track: This one is really hard for me omg. XD I love all the vocal tracks- I think I'll go with which one I like the most at this moment which would be Supporting Me, theme of the Biolizard. It has this slightly creepy, yet sorrowful tone that shows how much pain the Biolizard is in. I really hate that boss fight though- it was so hard! XD Favorite Nonvocal track: Bright Sounds from Dry Lagoon. All of Rouge's levels had amazing pieces written and played by a live jazz ensemble--I think Dry Lagoon captures their sound the best! Top 3 Games: Sonic Adventure, Sonic Adventure 2, and Sonic 2. They're the three Sonic Games that I can play and always have fun on! Top 5 Stages: This one is in no particular order. :3 Dry Lagoon, (SA2,): It's my favorite treasure hunting level from a player standpoint and an artistic standpoint. It's tons of fun to try and beat my time there! Lost World, (SA1,): This level is so beautiful--I get chills whenever I hear the music or run past the echidna ruins inside it! Emerald Coast, (SA1,): Another beautiful level that just makes me happy to run through. The colors and the aesthetics in it are gorgeous. City Escape, (SA2): I've played this level far too much grinding for chaos drives. XD Regardless it's a level that feels at home to me? Whenever I run through it I feel comforted somehow. Radical Highway, (SA2): The music is what really makes this level for me! The Dark tone of the level combined with how fun it is to run through the highway makes it very memorable. Favorite Team, (Team Rose, Sonic, Dark, Chaotix): I'd have to go with Team Dark these days because of their awesome friendship and OMEGA'S ADORABLENESS~<3 Favorite game intro: I have to agree with @followmyrainbow that Unleashed has a great opening! However I think the most memorable opening for me is SA2-- I still laugh when Sonic says his flight is boring before jumping out of the Helicopter. XD Which game has the best story: DON'T MAKE ME CHOOSE UGH. XD I'll split it up- S3&K had the best story out of the classic series. It was amazing at show don't tell for how the characters interacted with one another! Between the adventure games I'm going to go with SA1: I love it's laid back tone that it has for half the game. It makes me feel like I really got to see Sonic's day. I also how he comes to the realization that Chaos is hurting inside and that's why he's angry. He doesn't just assume that Chaos is a mindless monster. I think SA2 has an amazing plot too though and I love it's themes of purpose, coming to terms with grief and the past, team work, and ambition. Sonic Mania or Sonic Forces: For now Mania. We have more footage of it, the music is great, and so far it does feel like another entry in the classic series! Also Knuckles and Tails are playable eeee~<3 Which character(s) would you want to see in the Boom show: Again I agree with @followmyrainbow that Big would work really well in Sonic Boom! Otherwise I don't want anyone else to join it and I am patiently waiting for the Boom sub franchise to end. Feel free to ask questions as to why that is-- I'm trying to keep my reasons out of the Sonic tag as much as possible. 
Best Sonic show: Sonic OVA. I'll always be crushed it was never picked up to be a series. It's absolutely beautiful. Favorite Sonic era: Adventure era, but classic comes super close since I've played most of the classic games as well! 17. Your favorite thing about the Sonic franchise? 

I think that is how expandet it is. Like the whole Universe. Even if not all are related or some of them are alternate Universes. There are so many things that happened in the Sonic Francise. For Example in Sonic Adventure there is Chaos, a mythical water being that went rapage. In Sonic Adventure 2 It’s Shadow the Hedgehog, a millitary experiment. In Sonic Colours it’s the Wisp etc. Then there are the Comics with there own Storys. The Cartoons. You see. There is so much you can do with that. Not only watch or play it. You can write wonderful fanfictions or draw fanart about it. There is so much you can do ^^

38. How long have you been a Sonic fan? 

I have to say, suprisingly not for a “long” time. I think it happend 2013. It was more due of coincindence. I read in the Sonic Wik. The German one and I read about the Comics.One the same time I met a bunch of people one an german fanfiction site. Also about Sonic. And so this came all together ^^. Of course I liked Sonic already in the past. But I will say 2013, since that is where I really got interested in Sonic ^^

For the Sonic ask game, 🤖 Favorite robot and 🦔 Favorite version of Sonic? (the character)?

🤖 Favorite robot?

Even split between Gamma and Omega. Maybe a little predictable, I know, but if you haven't picked up the gist from the last reply I did, I was formatively baked on the Adventure games, and Heroes. Gamma's story is heartwrenching and he's such a compelling tragic figure, but I think Omega has a little more vivacity as a long-term cast member and he's very fun. I admittedly am not always the fond of the 'zany murder robot' interpretation others do, I kind of like his slightly stodgier game version where he feels like an affronted ronin who is also a walking tank and can't resist being a little snide and arrogant but also has his personal sense of ego that keeps him a bit chilly. 'Worthless consumer models,' indeed.

🦔 Favorite version of Sonic? (the character)

Kinda like the games, I think every version has its own appeals. Adventure was formative, obviously, so that tips the scale (classic Sonic is cute but I don't think he'll ever quite feel like 'my' Sonic).

Ultimately, well, I suppose I'm biased in that I have my own version of Sonic for personal AU purposes, and while I don't think he's 'the best' by any means (he's just more of the flavors I personally enjoy) you can kind of see my favorite bits in there.

I think my favorite writing take on him is Ian Flynn's comic run; where he's cheerful and upbeat, but distinctly cunning and calculating, whether that's bartering with Eggman without trusting him or honestly kind of lying to his friends to maintain that uncomplicated big brother best friend vibe. I feel like it's a fun statement about how Sonic, out-of-universe, is billed as Your Cool Babysitter to a presumed kid audience- a fantasy of how small children view teenagers. (This is part of why the movies feel like such a strong contrast; it's putting Sonic as a young person viewed from an adult's lens instead)

And that gets pretty spicy when Sonic himself is a flawed complex person dealing with a lot; in almost every incarnation he doesn't really have mentors or confidants himself, whether they just aren't present or unreliable or traumatically taken from him. He kind of stifles his needs to be an unquestioned hero to others, and unlike a 'chosen one' kind of dilemma, you get the sense Sonic does it to himself, which is a really interesting angle. 'Sure I have a little bit of a martyr complex but I'm cool about it'.

Oh, I have tons of OCs! I have Ovi Kintobor, Ginger the Blue Jay, Wesser the Sea Turtle, Lyre the Snake, Yuki Tomoe, Arura Tomes, Nebula the Space Dragoness, Slipstream, Allegra the Dragon, Ero the Mazurian, Trevor Wheatfield, and Cyrus the Lion (the last two I repurposed from Underground, lols). As for shipping...?

Well, I have a keen interest in SonOviamibula. But that's it...

15) If you could meet 1 Sonic Character in real life, who would it be and why?

Probably Tails. Let that kid talk to me about planes and whatnot and I'd call that a great day. Though, then again, I can see Sonic enjoying a trip around the block with me on my bike...

20) What are your Ideas of a new Sonic game?

Honestly? I wouldn't mind a Sonic game that incoporates the design philosophies of Sonic Adventure (not Adventure 2), but also incorporate the design philosophies of the Colours era.

10.) What do you like best about your favorite animated adaptation?

Geeze, you really want me to talk about Underground? @the-fourth-knower can attest to how much I talk about it in context with Sonic. But what I like about the adaptation is how fucking close the writers got to actually writing Sonic. I’m pretty damn serious on that front -- no actually writing stupid catchphrases, Sonic is just as clever as his game counterpart, none of the forced icky Sonally to be seen, and he’s very, very good to his siblings. If only Tails was part of this...

Sonic Adventure, natch. All the different styles in that game was simply... muah!

47.) Who or what first got you involved in Sonic? Describe the inciting incident here.

There’s not really much to describe -- mainly because the more I recall it, the more details get blurred and forgotten. Basically, I caught the end of Beginnings (the first listed episode of Sonic Underground), and started watching Sonic Underground as a kid, before eventually picking up Sonic Adventure 2: Battle for my Gamecube and playing the bonkers out of that. No joke, I actually did ask to myself ‘Where’s Sonia and Manic?’ when I was playing it, as I didn’t understand that they weren’t part of SoJ’s vision.

Though IMO, they can totally fit into the franchise, what with Sonic Team accidentally making Sonic have royal lineage in Black Knight, the fact that they keep referencing Sonic playing guitar, and how X totally copied Underground with the whole ‘Sonic being hydrophobic’ thing, and speaking of Sonic, him being royalty would help explain why he doesn’t like titles yet is completely gentlemanly in his mannerisms--
