Paul Weller's current career choices manage to surprise us in more ways than we could've assumed, he became hard to predict thanks to his willingness to go wild. Sonik Kicks, for instance, has a title that could signify him tackling the electronic soundscapes, which he, well, does. Yes, Mr. Weller went Low on this one, but we must take into the consideration the context of Weller's LP in comparison to Bowie's. Whereas the latter was in the process of re-establishing himself, Mr. Weller basically challenges what his presence means for the modern rock landscape with this move. While we can call him a stalwart, we shouldn't forget he doesn't release his latest records just to tour, he wishes to find the places, where he hasn't been yet, which is admirable for someone at his stage.
