Biggest Secret:

Sunny's biggest secret is the stress she carries behind her smile. Maybe it's not quite a surprise after working with her for a while, but even if you do know her well, she'll keep her fears at an arm's length from you.

Sunny is genuinely a cheerful and optimistic person, but being a doctor is tough, and working with real patients in real, devastating situations is a lot harder and a lot more stressful than med school prepared her for. Sometimes she wants to scream and throw a pillow or plushie against the wall (because yes, she definitely has a number of cute stuffed animals on her bed.) Sometimes she'd like to deflate and let the more experienced doctors see the toll this job takes on her (they do to an extent; she's not as great at hiding as she thinks she is.)

It would be so much easier to act like Denise and yell at an uncooperative patient, or shriek and have a melt down like Katie over the gross/rude ones. Sunny can't do that, though. Letting go of her optimistic outlook on life means accepting that there aren't always silver glimmers under the clouds. Sometimes the sun doesn't come out right away after a storm. If she sits with that truth for too long, it might stop her in her tracks and kill her spirit. If her spirit dies, what's the point of showing up? Money? Paperwork? She'll fight before she lets the darkness swallow her...even if it wears her down to the bone.

Sexuality Headcanon:

I think Sunny would be open to exploring all kinds of relationships with all types of people. I also think she prioritizes friendship, but if a stronger emotional connection blossoms from it, she'd definitely follow it! So: demisexual, panromantic.

Gender Headcanon:

I see Sunny as she/her cis, but maybe as she got older and learned more about herself, she'd want to experiment and find a better fit. Maybe uses she/they for a while in her thirties.

A ship I have with said character:

SUNSHINE x GRUMPY but without the same level of toxicity that some ships in this fandom have. Sunny goes out of her way to befriend Denise - and tells her as much when they meet - and eventually, Denise accepts, even though she finds this bubbly, cheerful ball of energy a bit much, sometimes.

On the other side of things, Denise's tough, blunt personality makes her the perfect protective girlfriend whenever Sunny's earnestness gets walked on. It's hard to keep a smile in place in such a daunting work environment :(

A BROTP I have with said character:

Sunny and the Janitor! They have such a cute episode XD Janitor gets into Sunny's head, telling her she's too soft to handle his shenanigans, later revealing that by doing so, he was in fact messing with her all along - and at the end it kinda seems they have more a playful rapport with each other compared to the quasi-hostile relationship he has with JD.

Also I think Sunny would've benefited more from JD's mentorship than Denise buuut she wasn't introduced until later.

A NOTP I have with said character:

Uhhhh. Well. Poor Sunny is often forgotten by this fandom so I'm not even sure I've even seen other ships for her. But if not with Denise, I could see her being happily aro/ace.

A random headcanon:

Sunny is definitely a people-pleaser who realllly doesn't want to be a burden to others, including senior staff. As a result, she ends up taking on more than she can handle. Damn it all though, she tries!

General Opinion over said character:

I love Ms Sonja Dey, (yes, her name is Sunny Dey): she's soooo cute and so super sweet and slept on so much?? I love her bright energy and cheerful attitude. So much of Scrubs is so depressing, despite being something of a comedy, and Sunny always brightens whatever scene she's in. At least for me. I didn't appreciate her nearly as much when I was a teen, but in my thirties now, I cherish characters who aren't all doom and gloom and grit and whatnot. Sometimes you gotta smile to survive this world. I know I certainly have.

TL;DR Sunny needs more love and she might be my favorite intern, now. Which is odd because I was very strongly team Denise for years (she was the fan fave of Season 8, which is why she carried over into S9.)

If I can find a way to give Sunny more attention going forward, I will <3
