Unbreakable Bond Week
Day 2: Falling
.....
They say, Never meet your heroes.
Those who never have still fail to understand what it meant.
For Tails, it was the same. Stories show it's because you'll be either disappointed or angry, stories dictate your heroes could be the exact opposite of how they are percieved, stories indicate your heroes seen in person will shatter your hopes and dreams...
As he supported his injured brother and his eyes searched for a safe place to hide them from the badniks, Tails realized how wrong those stories are.
Sonic didn't shatter any such hope. Sonic never disappointed him, never seemed to give up.
Never held back from protecting him. Tails frowned, worry etched deeper into him than just his face
A firm squeeze on his shoulder broke him out of his reverie and he glanced up at the silent hedgehog leaning on him. Unable to sign without letting go of the support, Sonic nodded at an overgrown patch of bush covering some outcropping.
Tails didn't hesitate navigating them towards it, heartbeat growing frantic as he felt the hedgehog's weight slowly increasing on him, the peach arm around his shoulders going limp.
"Sonic?" His voice squeaked out with a hint of panic, the only indication his brother had heard him being the terrifyingly weak squeeze. He hurried towards the jutting rocks, thoughts running a mile a minute.
He had never seen Sonic this weak before. Never expected to see him this weak before; barely clinging to consciousness, not the unbeatable image he had always believed.
"Stay awake, Sonic."
The reason they say to never meet your heroes is because once you see them, you realize that they're just another person and are so painfully human, it breaks the veil of expectations. It shows how they are not some untouchable, perfect being on a high pedestal. That they're someone who has flaws too, someone who makes mistakes, who has fears and regrets and feelings beyond what the world sees.
An imperfect perfection. A living soul.
Heroes can fall too. And they also need someone to catch them when they do.
He carefully lowers the fainting hedgehog within the high bushes surrounding the outcrop and works on dressing his companion's injury.
They say, Never meet your heroes.
Tails, for one, will always be glad to have met his hero.
He understood what it meant now and he'd be darned before he wished otherwise.
Do meet your heroes. Even if they sometimes need one themselves.
It will always be worth it.

Has your winter coat come in yet ?
Yeah! Which is weird, considering I still stay inside quite a bit. Sonic doesn't hibernate either because he doesn't have to worry about conserving energy. He just eats more chilidogs and sleeps longer.
Sonic's been a little more cuddly with me, though. Something about me being the perfect pillow...

I know that's a lot, but there are just so many amazing exes! It's so hard to pick just one!
