sonunheard replied to your post: // slade wilson is a human being who’s lived...
Hey OP, where is the TED talk?
// listen I could say some shit but I just want him to have the room to learn not to be so emotionally constipated. he’ll never be a good man, but he could do with some actual and honest love, man.

Alright, so maybe he’d gotten a little careless. He’d had a lot on his mind, and slipped. It didn’t happen often, but when faced with the numbers he had been, something was bound to happen. Numbers he’d been lied to about, in fact.
The slow steady drip follows him down the alleyway, and Slade clamps his hand harder against the hole in his gut to try to keep his blood in. He won’t die. Or, maybe he will. But he won’t stay dead. This kind of thing never keeps him down for long, but hell if it doesn’t hurt.
Gritting his teeth, he leans against the brick wall. He’s too hot.
Pulling his cowl off, Slade takes an honest breath of cool night air, hair plastered to his forehead. Looking down at his hand, it’s bad enough the blood is dripping off his glove. There’s black dancing at the corner of his vision. It’s been a while since he died. He supposes it’s what he gets for his carelessness.

O~h.
Dick can admit, that's not quite who he was looking for but damn if the multiverse doesn't know exactly what it's doing when it makes Joseph Wilson. Besides, while Joseph might not be directly useful to his cause, one string plucks another, doesn't it? Putting some collateral in his back pocket for later never hurts.
"Oh, Joey, there you are," Dick says, wrapping his coat around himself better as he jogs over. He touches Joseph's back softly and laughs breathlessly. "I've had the strangest morning. You-" he hesitates before quickly taking his hand away again. "You're not Joey. I'm so sorry, you- wow, you look- uh, perdon. Sorry to have bothered you, sir."
Topic: Complicated emotions and how he deal with them
not well? never? though, conversely, you could argue that all his emotions are complicated (and then argue that he doesn’t deal with any of them well). having grown up with emotionally neglectful parents and mostly being raised by himself, housekeepers, and boarding school teachers, Tim’s bad at emotions. most of his mother’s lessons on them involved not showing them, stamping them down, hiding them because they were a source of weakness, a place for someone to worm their way in and get the upper hand, and Tim has unfortunately taken Janet’s lesson to heart: expressing your emotions makes you too vulnerable to be worth the risk.
that doesn’t mean he hasn’t learned... a degree of emotional regulation over the years? honestly, i think that Shikra is... probably healthier about his emotions than a normal Tim: Tim romanticizes the hell out of how his parents raised and treated them, mainly (in my opinion) because of how Jack tried to change and be a part of Tim’s life after being paralyzed (which, yknow. when it takes you not being able to just pack up and leave whenever to make you be around your kid and give a shit about them, you’re not a great parent) and how that sort of... made Tim feel guilty? like, yeah, he resented that Jack only now wanted to be involved, when Tim had Robin shit to do, but he tried to understand his dad and tried to give him the benefit of the doubt, and retroactively painted all his earlier memories with the same sort of... positive outlook. Shikra doesn’t have that: he knows his parents neglected him and he’s not going to pretend otherwise, but that reality also enabled him to look real honestly at Bruce and his idea of dealing with emotions (dwell on it forever and let it eat you up inside to make you a better vigilante) and decide that he was not about that fuckin life.
so maybe he and Shiva don’t properly talk, but Tim has made strides on privately confronting and handling complicated feelings, like those for his parents and for Bruce and the Bats, and i think they’re greater strides than he’d have made if he stayed with Bruce for all these years.
