Today, shooting with my Sony AX100: Bill “Blinky” Hubina working on the early stages of an 8-6 balsa board in his shaping bay at @ventura_surf_shop. Because of the huge amount of dust that’s created by planning down the blank, my camera is in a cotton bag that I created from the bag that held a bed sheet set: I cut a hole in one side just big enough for the lens to poke out and cinch the draw string on the other side around the view finder. It works pretty well, though you need to keep a soft cloth on hand to wipe off the dust at intervals. This shot is a still pulled from my “B” camera: an iPhone 7 in a @watershot_housing case fitted with my wide angle dome port lens. It keeps the water AND the dust out! Again, I was wiping the lens often to remove the dust and since that one was right in the blast zone for the entire session, some of the footage is, well, a little dusty looking. I captured audio of some conversations and a lot of the sound of a screeching Accurate Planer using a small condenser mic @sennheiser MKE400 mounted via cold shoe to the AX 100. For the final edit I’ll mix that audio with voice over/A Roll that I’ll record with Blinky once I’ve got a first assembly. Lots more work to get this $700 slab of wood ready to ride. Can’t wait to bring you the story from baby blank to big barrels. #saltystoriesofsubstance #sonyax100 #balsasurfboard #documentary #independentfilm #behindthescenes #cameranerd (at Ventura Surf Shop)
