And so concludes this short and relaxing formation #paleostream! The Soom Shale is a late Ordovician lagerstätte with few fossils but often times exceptional preservation. This is one of the few places we have conodont fossils from with more than just the "teeth"

This member of the Cederberg Formation formed right after the Ordivician glaciation ended. Yet, it was still cold enough to have huge icebergs come through from melting glaciers, leaving dropstone behind (one is in the background).

The fauna is was preserved in an anoxic environment, which was probably not were all of these animals lived. Which is why I show the creatures here in vicinity to where their fossils would form. The size chart was provided this time by Discord member B_Wither

The enigmatic "Keurbosia" finally got an official description!

It's not the weird flippered wormy thing the original 2007 illustration depicted, but instead appears to be a giant Acheronauta-like long-bodied arthropod.

I repainted my wife’s Soom LittleGem Special Order Golden Light Shale unicorn Centaur with open eyes. Her old Faceup was from a long long time ago, like 12 years, so it was high time for a redo (it was in good condition, but faded and I’ve learned a lot since painting her last).

Here’s a few pics of her in my hand taken with my phone. I’m glad I got to paint her horn this time too, it really needed a silver accent!

Of course I needed to make a comparison of the two faceups. The before is from when I’d just finished the Faceup back in like 2014. I’m especially hobby with how much more natural he freckles look now! I also chose to give her black eyelashes instead of grey as they look nicer and work better with her medium grey hair.

I’ll end the post with some quick owner snapshots from her in the doll cabinet! The ring around her horn is the engagement ring I’d gotten for my wife. Her wedding ring naturally is on her finger, but neither of us wear our engagement rings (mine is too small now, and hers has an Opal for a stone and she doesn’t want to lose or damage it).

So this doll has become an expensive and fancy ring holder hah. I do need to restring the doll, she’s super floppy, but I dread it as she’s a centaur and they can be complex to restring…

This adorable boy isn't mind, but my wife's! His name is Celicon, yes, like my big and blonde unicorn boy. Why? Because they are both the same character, but I prefer collecting 1/3 scale, and my wife is much more at home in the 1/4 scale. But since I had his love (Jamil) as a very tall 1/3 scale (Soom Heliot/DV Apocalypse Horseman), my wife allowed me to shell Cel as well in big, but I digress...

I recently repainted Cel (end of March) not long after Epic Doll Fair as he nabbed some new eyes I'd bought with birthday money. The new eyes are gorgeous, but his old faceup was so faded, that the new eyes paled it out even more. But the new faceup is a vast improvement from the old (almost 10 years old!), and he's ready to dazzle again!!

See what I mean with faded? Before is the image on the left, and the right is the new faceup. Taken a few days apart.

My wife has owned her version of Cel since I think 2013? She got him secondhand as he'd been a big grail of hers (unicorns are kinda her thing), but she didn't like him on the Soom LittleGem body from back then, so she got a DC K-02 body, but she wanted to keep using the Soom hooves of course. Sadly the DC knees are way too scrawny for the chonky lower legs. So on a whim, she decided to try the whole Soom legs (thighs included) and they fit perfectly. Pity it doesn't work on the DC K-01 girl body, but hey, it worked on him!

I got to redo another older doll, an original release Soom MD Golden Light Children Shale romantic with unicorn horn from 2011 in cream white skin. The last time I painted him was in 2015.

It's really amazing to me how much I've grown as a faceup artist in the last 10 years. My blushing is more varied with colors, and my linework is much stronger.

I also acquired a light box for faceup photos, before that I laid them on a satin white cloth (which I still use) under a daylight bulb desk lamp.

The big reason he got a new faceup was because he got new eyes from Ashuradark (such pretty eyes...) and when my wife put them in, his old faceup, which was already faded after over 9 years, paled out even more. So my wife asked me to paint him again, and this time she also let me paint his horn with gold.
