“24/7 I’ve been searching for you and arrived here
If I try to open my arms and hold you, I can’t grab anything
No matter how much I miss you, I can’t fill my heart that wants you
24/7 your memory doesn’t end until the universe stops”
Soonyoung sat there. He didn’t know why he had bothered waiting there on the rooftop where they would meet. Like he did every so often. It had been months since he had last seen Jihoon. He knew that the younger male had moved on by now. He could tell by the way he hadn’t called. By the way they passed each other on the street like they never shared an ‘I love you’. Like they had never met. He felt the pain balling up in his chest like he did every time a memory of Jihoon popped into his head.
He looked at his watch and looked at the time. 1:38am. He decided it had been long enough. He stood up and brushed off his dark blue fitted jeans. He opened the door to the staircase and began to walk into the lobby of the abandoned office building. The same building he and his group of friends would meet up at and spend hours just telling jokes and making the dumbest memories. The same abandoned office building where he kissed Jihoon for the first time on a dare because Seungkwan his best friend had a crush on the older boy.
Soonyoung ran his hand across the front desk before he exited the building. He pulled the hood of his black hoodie over his hair to protect his black locks from the falling rain. It might have been late at night, but Seoul was still active and alive. He walked down the city street and found himself in front of a bar. Jam Jam. The very bar he and Jihoon shared their first drink together privately. He sat at the bar and ordered a bottle of Soju and a shot glass. He took the green bottle in his hand and poured himself a shot. He took it back before quickly pouring another and just instantly shot it back. As he poured himself a third shot before his phone began to ring. He picked it up and answered before taking the time to look at the collar I.D
“Hello?” He said as he answered the phone
“Yah, babe. It’s almost 2am! Where are you? I’ve been worried sick and I’m tired.” The voice whined through the phone.
“Channie, I’ll be home soon. Just lay down in bed, I have my keys.” He reassured his boyfriend to remain calm and insisted he would be home soon.
“Okay Hyung... but please- get home soon.” He pleaded.
“I will. I’ll talk to you later” He said then hung up.
Soonyoung knew that what he was doing wasn’t right. He was taking advantage of the fact he knew his younger friend had been crushing on him for as long as he could remember, but he couldn’t help himself. He was doing anything he could to get over Jihoon. Yeah he felt bad, but he was just trying to fill the hole that Jihoon left behind when he walked away from him. For the last few weeks, he had been coming here to this run down bar. Asking himself why? and what went wrong? was there anything he could have done differently to avoid losing him? He knew that beating himself up over it wasn’t gonna get him anywhere, but all he could do was look back on every argument they had in their three year relationship. All the night’s he didn’t spend with Jihoon because he was so busy. The thoughts haunted him every night and had been for weeks.
He looked down at his watch after he pulled himself out of his thoughts. 3:12am. He looked out the large windows and saw the streaks of water as they poured from the sky, ‘One more time. Then I’ll go home.’ He downed one more shot of soju and took a deep breath. He left some cash on the counter and got up. He stepped out of the bar and was greeted by the warm rain that soaked his face. He looked up and began to walk back the way from which he came. He put his hands in his pockets as he walked along the lit up Seoul sidewalk. He let that day play through his head.
Soonyoung felt the tears well up in his eyes. He walked into their shared apartment after a long day of teaching dance classes and was greeted by his long time boyfriend standing in the hallway. His suitcase packed.
“J-Jihoon. What are you doing? Going on a trip?” He laughed nervously. Praying that, that was what was going on.
“Soonyoung... Let’s not act like both of us haven’t seen this coming for quite some time now...” Jihoon spoke. His words piercing through Soonyoung's heart. His tone was cold and emotionless.
“Can't we sit down and talk about this first? Please? I know we’ve both been busy, but I've been trying so hard... Jihoon please you can’t leave me.” He felt the tears building up in his eyes. His heart dropped into the pit of his stomach.
“Soonyoung... There's no talking about it anymore. I’m sorry. I’ve just lost those feelings...” He looked away from him.
“Lost what? What feelings? The desire to fix us? I’ll change everything. I’ll fix it all since I’m the reason we're so broken. I’ll find another job with a better schedule. Jihoon please I’ll-” The tears escaped his eyes and fell like waterfalls on to his shirt as he was cut off by the smaller ones serious tone.
“Soonyoung, I don’t love you anymore. I have come to not like you. I don’t wanna see you anymore.” He brought his head up to look Soonyoung in his eyes. He could see the absolute shock on Soonyoung's face. The words cut through his entire being. He couldn’t believe the love of his life was standing here in front of him, telling him that after three years of kisses, hardships, and special moments, he had fallen out of love with him.
They both stood there in silence for a minute. Jihoon grabbed the handle of his suitcase and walked towards the door, “I’m sorry. I wish you the best.” He said as he shut the door behind him and exited the building. Not looking back in fear it would send him running into Soonyoung’s arms.
Soonyoung dropped to his knees. He just stayed there and sobbed silently. After what felt like hours he brought himself to his feet and made his way to his bedroom. He laid in the bed he and Jihoon had shared together for the last two years and laid on his side. He laid his head on Jihoon’s pillow and inhaled deeply. Jihoon’s scent coursed through Soonyoung’s nostrils. It calmed him for a few moments before sending a wave of heartache through his entire body. He cried out loudly as he curled his body into a ball and covered his body in the comforter.
A few days had passed and no one had heard from Soonyoung. Filled with worry Mingyu and Chan headed over to his apartment. Neither were close with Jihoon, so they figured the two were just fighting and Soonyoung was just trying to let off some steam and wanted to avoid being asked a thousand questions as their friend group always did when the couples fought. The pair banged on the door and when no one answered, Mingyu used his spare key to let them in.
“Hyung? Hyung are you here?” Mingyu called out. When they didn't receive an answer they looked around the apartment. As they got closer to the bedroom Chan motioned his hand for Mingyu to stop.
“You hear that? It sounds like crying.” Chan said has he looked at Mingyu with heartache in his face. Everyone knew Chan had a crush on Soonyoung, and had since they were elementary school. Well, everyone but Soonyoung. Chan had tried to confess a couple times but every time he was either too nervous and ended up blowing it, or Soonyoung was already with Jihoon so he figured it was a waste of time since Soonyoung had a crush on him for the same amount of time.
The two got to the bedroom and were greeted with the saddest version of Soonyoung they had ever seen. He was curled in a ball, under the covers with dace on Jihoon’s pillow. His face was was oily and showed obvious signs of not being washed in a few days. His hair was greasy and unkept. His eyes were red, puffy, and showed heartbreak and exhaustion.
“Oh Hyung...” Chan let out in a silent voice. His heart hurt seeing him like this. He walked over and called into his bed and laid behind him. He wrapped his arms around him and held him tightly. Mingyu followed, laying in front of him. He took his best friend into his arms and let him cry out.
“He’s gone. He’s really gone. He packed all his things and left me. He left me.” He sobbed out uncontrollably. Mingyu and Chan just rubbed his arms and back in comfort. They didn't know what to say because they knew no amount of words could really comfort him. He was heartbroken and he would be for quite a while.
After a few months Soonyoung began dating Chan. The younger one had been there for him so much, it just made sense to him and for a little bit he was genuinely happy with him. He hadn't seen Jihoon since the day he left and Chan was helping his pain subside, but when Soonyoung saw Jihoon while walking the city streets one day it all came flooding back. He had been a wreck ever since. Chan knew he was acting different. He didn't want to pry too much into his boyfriends business so whatever Soonyoung didn’t tell him he didn’t ask about. He decided he would let Soonyoung tell him in his own time. Which brought them to the place they currently were.
Soonyoung looked up. He was in front of the office building. He took deep breath and looked down at his watch once more. 3:56am. He sighed and walked into the building. Soonyoung had never been worried about the strange people the night time brought out. He was a pretty good fighter and always had a weapon or two on him. He walked through the run down building and made his way to the roof top. When he opened the door he was greeted by a small silhouette. His body filled with anxiety until the figure turned and similar features were made visible by the bright moonlight. It was Jihoon. He turned around fully to face Soonyoung.
He smiled at him, “So... You still come here too huh?” He spoke. His voice filled Soonyoung’s soul with a warm wave of comfort.
Soonyoung smiled and nodded, “Y-Yeah... I didn't think you did though.”
Jihoon shook his head, “I do, and have been. Since the day I left. I come here every night around 4 am and wait until sunrise before leaving.”
Soonyoung raised an eyebrow, “Waiting for the sunrise? Why wait here when there’s plenty of better places to watch it.” He said as he walked closer to Jihoon who remained standing close to the railing of the rooftop. He grabbed the railing and looked out into the night horizon. The rain stopping and the smell of dew gracing his nostrils.
“I’ve been waiting... For you Soonyoung.” He spoke silently, but the words boomed through Soonyoung’s ears. His heart pounding so loud he could feel it in his throat.
“W-What? Why?” He turned to look at Jihoon, who was already staring at him. A small smile made it’s way across his face as tears filled his small eyes.
“Because I lied Soonyoung. I lied, and lied again.”

But, his strategies hadn’t been perfect.”
CHAPTER ONE : READY SET GO
“Don’t touch me.”
It was a common enough phrase to be heard falling from the lips of the smallest of the group. Standing a whole five foot four inches, Jihoon wasn’t one for much physical contact. When you’re surrounded by ten other boys with only each other for company, that made it kind of difficult; one begins to crave the comfort of another person when it’s the end of the world, after all. However, Jihoon just wasn’t a big fan of the idea, especially when he was presently occupied with checking the situation outside the main doors. He had been peering through a tiny gap in the makeshift screen of newspaper that they'd stuck to the glass when he'd sensed a hand hovering above his shoulder.
“Sorry Jihoon," Seungkwan hesitated as he saw Jihoon stiffen at the sound of his voice. He decided to continue anyway. "I was just wondering if," Jihoon's hand flew over Seungkwan's mouth, silencing him. Seungkwan noticed that despite this, Jihoon's eyes had never strayed from their previous target.
Jihoon held his breath as he watched a couple of shadows shamble past the doorway, outlined against the newspapers by the morning sun. He caught a glimpse of their sunken features and sallow skin, and he had to stop himself from looking away. A few moments passed and Jihoon relaxed, turning to Seungkwan with an indeterminate look in his eyes.
“I was just wondering, if there was anything I could do to help. That’s all.” Seungkwan stated, now in a more hushed tone. Seungkwan was always eager to lend a helping hand (even more so, Jihoon had decided, when it was clear that a helping hand was unwanted and unnecessary) and make up for the mistake that was still ever-present in his mind.
“No, you’re good. Go check on Seungcheol and Hansol, see if they need anything.”
Despite Jihoon’s cold exterior that was so often found on early mornings, and most times really, Seungkwan and a couple of the others knew that there was something underneath that. Something he was keeping hidden for whatever reason. Not in a ‘he’s going to smother us all as we sleep’ sort of way, just something that Jihoon didn’t want to discuss. Seungkwan desperately wanted to find out what it was – partly out of sheer curiosity, but also because he knew that Jihoon could do with a reason to stop looking at him like he was a stranger.
So Seungkwan went, quietly, out of the doors he’d come in through, and back into the courtyard. Seungcheol and Hansol were on guard duty that morning, so he knew he could find them just inside their block. Seungkwan was set on finding out what he could do to help Jihoon, and so he went with the goal of getting Seungcheol to offer him some guidance. The fact that his best friend Hansol was there was just an added bonus.
Jihoon sat in what was the reception building for a long time that morning. Unable to find it in himself to get up and join his friends. He often wondered if they were even friends, or rather, if they would have been friends if the circumstances were different. It goes without saying that they would want to be friends with the only person that has more than one braincell, Jihoon supposes. He had practically kept them alive singlehandedly for the last four months. It amazed him that out of the twelve of them – now eleven – that he had been the only one to have a half decent strategy pre-planned in the event of an apocalypse.
But, his strategies hadn’t been perfect.
And that’s why Jihoon found himself making sure there was a reasonable distance between him and the rest of the boys most of the time. He knew it could end in disaster, being so separated from the group, but he’d rather be the budgie than one of the miners.
It was around midday when Jihoon finally got to his feet, and he did another quick check of the glass panels of the doorway and the front of the building (modern architecture isn’t the most ideal for keeping out unwanted guests at this point, but they make do with what they have), making sure that the sheets of newspapers that they had spread across the panes were securely blocking out any direct line of sight. Jihoon was just about to close the rear door of the reception behind him when he heard a faint noise, getting louder. It at first sounded like water rolling down the road that went past the main doors, moving heavy and sluggish as it congealed with the layer of mud and ichor on the concrete. Maybe a pipe burst somewhere? It definitely hadn’t rained anywhere nearby in the last two weeks, so it couldn’t be a flash flood. Jihoon stopped, holding the door to the courtyard open, watching with unseeing eyes as Seungcheol and Seungkwan walked out of their block, deep in conversation, and Chan was sat atop the laundry room roof, eyes closed and head back as he enjoyed the unseasonal April sun.
Jihoon listened. He could hear it draw nearer, and nearer. It was coming down the road, that was undeniable, churning against the concrete, maybe fifty feet away. And then he heard it, the faint echo of dozens of jaws snapping open and closed, teeth chattering together as their mindless owners stumbled and lurched ever forward.
Several things then happened at once:
Chan, momentarily breaking from his reverie, noticed the sound and snapped his head in its direction. From his vantage point he could see at least twenty biters, some fresh and some not so much, shambling in their direction. He glanced down as he saw Jihoon tense and panic spread across his face before it was replaced with his characteristic calm determination. Chan got low on the roof and pressed his body as far as he could into it, aiming to avoid detection.
Jihoon let the door he was holding swing shut, ever grateful for the soft-close mechanism it had and stepped behind the wall to his right. He was hidden from view. He closed his eyes and listened.
Seungcheol and Seungkwan were sat at the far side of the courtyard, and hadn’t heard the approaching threat as they had been deep in conversation. Seungcheol said something that Seungkwan unfortunately considered funny, as he barked out a loud ringing laugh. The chattering of teeth from the herd erupted into a cacophony of moans and damp snarls. The pair of them froze for what felt like too long to be considered appropriate, before they flew from their seats and began running to the tall building on their left.
hey so i’m not sure if 3 sentence fic requests are still open but if they are soonhoon + moon children au? if not just ignore this skdjdn ur writing is so pretty i love it, thank u in advance!!
“she’s calling us back.”
jihoon turns around to find soonyoung illuminated by the moonlight, with his hand outstretched and his expression giving nothing away, but jihoon knows.
he knows how soonyoung longs to remain on earth instead of returning back whenever she calls for them and because he knows, jihoon takes his hand and leads the way back.

CHAPTER TWO : HERE THEY COME
These things tended to happen much too fast in reality, none of the slow motion that is found in movies and tv shows that let the protagonists think through their next move. Jihoon didn’t have the time to stop and think, no, he had to act on his gut instinct, following his fight or flight reflex to the letter. He sprang from his position beside the inner door to the courtyard almost instantly, sprinting towards the safety of their block of flats. His feet hit the ground in time with the shattering of glass and he knew that if he was seen running inside that they would surely follow. It was only twenty feet or so from where he had been standing to his target, but you’d be surprised at how agile a pack of walking corpses could be when they were hungry and could smell a fresh meal.
Jihoon reached the entryway just behind Seungkwan and Seungcheol, pulling it closed behind him and following them up the first set of stairs. The upper hallway was small, framed by two flats that they had cleared out when this all had started in late December, with doors leading left and right and a large floor-to-ceiling window opposite the stairwell, facing onto the court. Seungkwan and Seungcheol split off from him, one running into each of the flats to inform the others, while Jihoon threw himself to the ground in front of the window, tucking his body as close as he could against it without risk of him being noticed.
He saw Chan in a similar position on the roof of the laundry room and his heart missed a beat; instant fear and regret pooled in his stomach as he saw the youngest of the group meet his gaze. He was stuck out there, all alone. How could Jihoon have forgotten that Chan was on lookout today? Why didn’t he think? Jihoon pressed a finger to his lips in a hushing motion despite knowing that Chan was well aware of the situation he was now in.
He watched as the twenty six (from this distance he could safely count each head) biters poured into the courtyard and noted that there were at least two still outside thrashing against the large wooden gate that was to the left of the small reception building. The pack went towards the far side where Seungkwan had been when he’d laughed, a clear display of their unnervingly acute sense of hearing, before moving back to surround the laundry room. They could smell Chan, they just didn’t know where he was yet. Jihoon didn’t know how much time they had before they started beating against the thin walls and tearing the structure down to find him.
Jihoon scooted back a few feet before slipping into one of the flats and almost running down the hall to the kitchen.
“We need to get Chan out of there,” He said, looking toward the five others that all shared the same expression: panic. “He’s stuck on the roof, and they’re gonna figure it out eventually.”
“What should we do?” Seungkwan was the first to stand to attention, and Jihoon was for once grateful for his eagerness to help.
“I don’t know, I don’t know,” Jihoon began to pace, a bad habit he’d picked up from someone a long time ago when he was stressed. Although back then it was nearing deadlines and writer’s block, not the impending threat of dozens of sets of teeth tearing his friend apart. “We can distract them, give him a chance to get down and inside.”
“Don’t be an idiot, we can’t go out there!” Jeonghan got to his feet, “That will just get more of us killed. There’s got to be-“
“I’m not saying we go out there, I’m saying we distract them. Do we have any bottles or tins that we don’t need?” Jihoon looked toward the group as a few of them hesitantly nodded, and then past them toward the large blanket that covered the window. “A couple of us go downstairs and get ready to take care of any stragglers that follow Chan, while the rest of you throw bottles or plates or whatever the fuck we have toward the other side of the court.”
Jihoon knew that biters usually followed sound over smell, but he couldn’t say for certain how many of them would split off from the herd. He chose not to voice that concern.
Joshua and Wonwoo immediately began fetching any empty glass bottles and tin cans that they had over the two flats that the group lived in, while Seungkwan, Minghao, and Jeonghan walked towards the stairwell with Jihoon.
Jihoon could hear muffled voices in the other flat, and Seungcheol came out, nodded at him, and joined the group by the stairs. From this position, Jihoon could just make out the top of the roof that Chan was on but couldn’t see him or the situation on the ground. They waited for the longest thirty seconds of their lives until they heard the distant shatter of glass and clatter of metal on hard ground. Jihoon took a breath, wrapped his fingers around the handle of the large kitchen knife he had tucked into his belt, and hurried down the stairs.
It took five cautious, hesitant steps to reach the front door, most of the biters were out of sight by this point. Jihoon opened the door and looked up to see Chan’s hopeful eyes peeping over the edge of the building. It was only about ten feet off the ground, but if he landed awkwardly it could all be over. He couldn’t make a sound. Jihoon flapped his hands desperately to hurry him down, glancing to the left and right to keep track of where the danger was.
Chan began to lever himself over the side of the roof, his feet dangling below, as two biters rounded one of the corners of the laundry room and locked onto Jihoon leaning out of the open door. Jihoon held his position and let them come to him, knowing that his friends were behind him waiting for just this.
Jihoon drew his weapon and waited until they were within reaching distance to grab the closest by its throat and drag it inside, simultaneously plunging his knife deep into the eye socket with his other hand. He fell into Jeonghan, knocking both of them to the ground, as the second biter moved into their space before being met with a clean thunk to the back of the head by Seungcheol’s hammer. Seungkwan, who had been frozen against the opposite wall, returned to the land of the living when it hit the ground and offered Jihoon a hand before doing the same for Jeonghan.
Chan had made it to the door at this point and was in the clear. Well, he would have been, had it not been for the growing absence of things being thrown out of first-floor windows that then became apparent. Jihoon couldn’t remember how long it had been that he’d heard the last bottle hit the ground.
"Shit," Jihoon said under his breath. Behind Chan came almost a dozen biters, and Jihoon heard the sound of plates starting to be thrown down to try and get their attention as a last resort, but it was too late. Once one of the undead sees you, it’s not gonna stop until either its dead for good or you are.
“Get upstairs and warn the others!” Seungcheol hissed at Chan, who was shaking so violently and breathing so heavily that it looked as though he was about to pass out. Jihoon kicked the door open again, letting the biters in and trying to avoid any damage to what was now the only barrier between them and outside.
Like a switch had been flicked, the five of them began their assault. Jihoon’s goal was to keep the biters attention fixed on him, leaving them open to attacks from his friends, but that was pretty difficult when he was in a tight space and had to distract ten of them. He slashed once, twice at the one closest to him, and stepped back when it swung at him in return. Using its particularly sluggish movements to his advantage, Jihoon was able to imbed his blade deep into the thing’s skull and push it aside before focusing on the next one in line.
Seungcheol and Minghao had taken out three biters between them, working like a well-oiled machine as they each took turns pulling one from the pack and pressing it against the wall while the other got the kill. Jihoon watched as they silently dispatched another two undead before chancing a glance toward Jeonghan. He was holding his own, but Jihoon knew that he wasn’t the best fighter out of the group, and that he would need help if it kept on like this for much longer. The floor was becoming thick with gore and the smell was making it hard to breath. Jihoon couldn’t see Seungkwan.
Two biters moved in on Jeonghan at once, who was pinned against the wall with a hand against each rotting corpse’s throat holding them at bay. Seungkwan, who had been obscured by the number of walking corpses entering their space, dove between the group of undead that were still coming in through the open door and threw himself at one of Jeonghan’s attackers, slamming it against the wall right next to him and smashing its head into the wall again and again until it stopped moving.
Jihoon had four cornering him beside the stairwell when the pounding footsteps of five angry boys signalled reinforcements. Wonwoo and Minggyu each pulled one biter away from him, Minggyu throwing it to the ground and throwing a sickening blow to its head as it tried to stand, while Wonwoo held his at arms’ length and ran his knife through its eye like butter.
Minghao let out a pained cry just as Seungcheol turned to shove a biter off of him, a fresh one which still had its clear blue eyes that it had during life. She would have still been considered pretty, Jihoon thought, if it weren’t for the chunk of Minghao’s arm that she held in her hands. Seungcheol kicked her back into the now-thinning pack, and took to wildly swinging his hammer in a fit of rage. He wasn’t the only one to react this way, Jihoon’s nerves thrummed with anxiety and terror and he could see that Jun and Minggyu both had a similar look on their face. They all simultaneously went from the defensive to the offensive, and landed blows that sent blood and flesh splattering the white-washed walls around them.
Jihoon felt a hand grab his ankle and slammed his foot down furiously in its direction, snapping the arm from its owner before crushing its skull into mush. They were down to the last few, and as Minghao was being hurried up the stairs by Seungcheol, Jihoon and the others took care of the remaining undead below.
Despite the sun beating down on the surprisingly still intact glass doorway that should have been making the hallway more like a greenhouse, Jihoon felt bitterly cold. The sweat that was running down his forehead felt like ice on his skin and he wiped at it with the back of his hand. All that could now be heard was the sound of eight boys desperately trying to catch their breath.
