bi-normativity in MY Grisha society?! More likely than you’d think...
Okay hear me out, in Grisha society being bi should've been the norm and yes I will elaborate..
Grisha are all very sexy (when they use their powers they become healthier and more attractive) and i guess it’s very difficult to conform to heteronormativity when everyone is so hot all the time
Grisha live very long youthful lives and let's be honest, what are the chances that they all live for 150+ years and gender is still a meaningful category for them? There must be at least some degree of gender fuckery and sexual experimentation going on
On a more serious note, gender roles (and even gender specific performances) aren’t really applicable to Grisha. They all wield the same Grisha powers (which is a massive equalizer), they all wear the same Keftas, they all are soldiers of the Second Army and service as equals. I just don’t see how gender specific expectations would fit into this world
They don’t sustain their numbers by reproductive relationships, they scout Grisha children born into Otkazat'sya families, so they don’t experience any pressure to marry someone of the ‘opposite’ gender in order to settle down and have children
Grisha society is highly militaristic given how it doesn't stretch much beyond the Second Army. So i imagine any kind of close comradery between soldiers would have been encouraged regardless of gender
