honestly I do think more rpgs/games need insufferable characters. they need to genuinely and I do mean genuinely suck because gamers nowadays hear one mildly negative comment and start freaking out . and make them the only healer in the game so you can’t take them out of ur party or you will die. bonus points if it’s an insufferable woman

gah. crpgs are very hard to define but theyre like a tabletop game placed on the computer. bg3 is the "easy" definition of a crpg because it uses dnd rules and turnbased playstyle .
anyways: play pillars of eternity and planescape: torment. pillars genuinely made me lose my mind because of how damn good the plot was and planescape torment is The basis for fiddy as a character (the nameless one is Literally Her). these two are the "read a book" crpgs
wrath of the righteous (wotr) is a long slog of a game that is so much fun but is also so, so, so fucking painful. i have nightmares about drezen. i spent more time in the loading screens than i did playin the damn game but i had so much fucking fun getting my ass beat in the playful darkness fight. you will see people start caluclating numbers for wrath of the righteous. im biased but it also has id say one of the best game romances written in a crpg (daeran arendae) and no its not because hes blond but it adds to his je ne sais quoi
bg3 is Good i will not deny i have problems with it but it was oneof my first experiences with a crpg and i hold it dear to my heart. dark urge origin has a very good plotline and my friend who played it first and not tav said that she had a lot of fun with it even though people say to play it second. honestly if you're the type of gamer that plays once and sporadically and is interested in the durge plotline: just play durge first, you'll have a lot more fun.
rogue trader is also a very good crpg but let me tell you everyone in that game talks like they have a wordcount to meet. pasqal's dialogue and storyline is an effort and a half to decipher. it has one of the best "fall from grace" plotlines ever idc if half of the people who jerk off to having their character be the bestest greatest rogue trader ever its time to get FUCKING TORTURED!!!!!!!!!!!!! also yrliet is a very well written character i heart her i support her crimes i wish she actually sent our ass to [REDACTED FOR SPOILERS]
i tried kingmaker but found it meh. i didnt like the tone compared to wotr which is more super duper high stakes powerjerking family and kingmaker is more lowstakes. i just didnt feel connected to teh characters and this was right after i played pillars so all of them felt very flat to me.
some may debate whether dragon age the series is a crpg, personally i think origins is a crpg and the others arent but origins was my first ever crpg and so i love it for that. i love caterina as my first ever crpg girl but if you do ever play dao: PLAY THE DWARF NOBLE ORIGIN. the dwarf noble origin is just THAT GOOD it has everything. it has siblings. it has betrayal. it has clawing your way out of death. it has a fall from grace. it has returning to a world that now hates you. it has the possibility of you having a bastard child if you play as a male aeducan. its the strongest origin along with fem city elf imo and i wish i wasnt so emotionally connected to the cousland origin because i went back to it a while ago and its So Bland without my inner mindpalace making things worse. aeducan on Top!!!!!!!!!!
