What promo will Sophia and elenor got by pillow talk?

More followers on social media ($$$$ from promo deals). PRESS articles about them to keep them relevant and again lead to $$$$ via promo deals. Why do these random, NON-famous (re: average girls) “EX-girlfriends” (who also did not deserve attention as “girlfriends”) of the boys of 1D deserve press? WE SEE WHAT THEY WANT US TO SEE, and exes are irrelevant when infamous - except when it comes to those related to 1D.

Your right about Niall being single and has a clean late. On snl someone shouted I love you liam and the news guy said Liam was the obvious choice in 1d. Liam was everywhere after the weed video. Hq's every week and Sophia was pushed too and it felt like Liam was being pushed instead of Harry but then we couldn't compare Liam's push to nialls this last week

Okay, so the best I can find for the SNL thing is this, which is literally just a girl in the audience screaming "I love you Liam." Sorry if that's not what you're referring to. I can't find the other thing you're referring to, but I do remember when it was going around that one of the late night talk show hosts chose Liam as their favourite member of One Direction. We also know that Jimmy Fallon talks about One Direction and Harry Styles all the time.

The thing is, neither of those things look like they came from 1DHQ. I've heard the opinion that Jimmy Fallon references One Direction all the time to create buzz, get in the press, and pick up some of their fanbase. (And it seems to be working). I don't think it's at 1DHQ's request.

I actually do have an opinion on why we were seeing so much of Liam and especially of Sophia earlier this year. I think that Sophia is being groomed to take over Eleanor's role, and Sophiam will be the new loved up couple. Whether this is because Louis refuses to cooperate or as part of a coming out strategy, I don't know. I have a whole post about it here, and you can check out my Sopheanor tag.

Since I think that the yacht outing, etc. were about that shift, I don't think that the intent was to push Liam as the new frontman.

What we've seen with Niall, on the other hand, is typical Modest/HJPR strategies (the Sun, Shoreditch house, mutual promo with 5SOS) with the exact same narrative they used for Harry (heartbreaker, womaniser, mansion in LA). That makes it look like Niall is being given the same image Harry was, using the same tools. Conclusion: he's the new frontman.

We know colin is ben's dog, what people are speculating on is the fact that the dog looks similar to the one that was in the car with Eleanor. We only have a partial pic of the dog in the car, so we can't compare, but I'll throw this out there. If it was the same dog, they wouldn't want us to have a good picture to compare. I could also wonder why we didn't get a clear pic of the dog when the title of pic was doggie road trip. Why did we get that picture in the first place?

Well…we got the picture in general to cement the idea that Eleanor and Sophia are BFFs. (Gal pals, actually. They’re in love.)

But why would they feel the need to include a dog on the roadtrip at all? If they wanted a dog, they would have used one that wasn’t identifiable. I can see no way that this would have come about? It’s probably just a coincidence, but everyone can believe what they want, it makes to difference to the overall narrative. That road trip was already SHADY AS HELL.

That last ask made me think. They did seem to be phasing Eleanor out earlier this year and it looked like Gemma was almost being positioned to take her place as a female role model and her own set of promo. Looking back on it now I wonder if that was the intention and whether her dropping back a lot was more related to Liam and Sophia reconnecting or Gemma's increased relationship with Ashton and them wanting to keep 5sos as separate as possible.

I did hear something about Gemma being publicised more when Eleanor was missing earlier but it seems to have died down. There are lots of possible reasons for that, including (a) the fans didn’t connect with her; (b) she didn’t like it and decided not to participate; or (c) her relationship with Ashton and the desire to keep 1D and 5SOS separate.

(For the record, I didn’t even know about the rumours that she was dating Ashton until you mentioned it. Apparently their ship name is Gashton??? That’s awful! That’s worse than Gryles!)

I’m not going to comment on whether Sophiam is real. I will say, however, that I don’t think the publicity, promo, and spotlight on their relationship is actually fun for Sophia or Liam, so if they agreed to do it, it was a business decision and not a personal one.

My personal opinion (which I have seen others disagree with), is that the “loved up girlfriend” has some utility that a sister does not. Eleanor and Sophia have been portrayed a very specific way (blandly pretty, we know nothing that makes them unique, etc.), that allows them to be aspirational figures to the fans. They are living the dream and presenting a blank canvas that fans can paint themselves onto.

There’s no way to become a pop star’s sister though, so it might be harder to get 1D fans invested in Gemma. I bet the crossover 1D/5SOS fans are just eating up Gashton though. That’s devilishly clever actually. Having not looked into it at all, I am immediately sceptical that there is anything other than promo going on.
