emily please spare some beth facts 🥺 some beth/arthur things 🥺?

many of the gang refer to beth as miss barlowe for a good while! (force of habit cause she's a teacher i guess lmao) the people closest to her - charles and abigail particularly (arthur eventually) call her beth though! micah tends to refer to her that way in a mocking tone

i'm sure some of the other gang aren't particularly literate/didn't have a chance at a good education so i'm kind of soft thinking about some of them approaching her shyly and asking for lessons

beth isn't as half as meek or soft as she presents herself. she uses it as kind of an armor so people underestimate her. that and sometimes she likes to pretend she still is that woman again (even though she never was.)

beth can typically be found at camp - helping out with the other ladies under grimshaw! she likes to make herself useful and she's more accustomed to housework like that then many expected - she often was expected to help with the families she housed with cooking dinner and cleaning and such.

arthur is very conscientious of the fact that men have not always been good to beth to say it in the least and nearly always lets her make any kind of move first. if beth wasn't as impulsive / forward as she is eventually then i don't think arthur would have ever voiced his feelings for her!

beth keeps little dried flowers in her leathers/boots/blouses, sometimes she tucks them into arthur's clothes and saddlebags too

beth views dutch as a type of stand-in father figure (not her actual father like arthur and john do - her relationship with her father is just vitriolic and having him care for her and take her into his "family" meant a lot) which leads to him being able to manipulate her very easy.

sometimes beth picks up books in town that she wants arthur to read and will scribble little notes to him in the margins before she gives it to him

has a chestnut Tennessee walker named Romeo!

arthur has a ton of little doodles of beth - mostly just pieces of her like her eyes, nose, hands, etc. almost like he's a little embarrassed of how sweet on her he is

arthur eventually helps beth resolve her situation with the men pursuing her

the two of them are very wary about pursuing each other - each not believing they deserve the other (as well as beth not wanting to rope arthur into her drama).

beth is incredibly protective of the gang (as many of the others are) and is known to become vicious against disloyal people. the gang is incredibly important to her as its the first and only family she's found who loves her
