hello friends and neighbours: i had a very decent sleep last night, my precious baby is happily off to daycare, and i have had my morning tea. I am so ready to attack this day. The whole house is going to get cleaned. I am going to get myself a life jacket. And then i am going to take my paddleboard out for its inaugural ride (provided it’s not too windy/smoky). Hooray!!

My day-after-birthday tradition is to have cake for breakfast and for the last 3 years, Erik has been getting me the most delicious ice cream cake from a local shop. This year’s has funfetti and chocolate ice creams and it is so good! Freya was utterly coated in chocolate last night, it was delightful.
I have definitely turned the corner on the first trimester feelings. Way more energy — I was not wiped out at 7 pm yesterday which was amazing — and I only feel nauseous now if I eat too much sugar! (That is not my usual state. I can usually eat a nearly unlimited quantity of sugar.)
Last day of work until August and I’m set up beside an open window listening to the birds chirping and the wind rustling the leaves. Wow I love this little house so much 🥹 also please enjoy my indulgent breakfast creation of chocolate chips and peanut butter on toast. It’s delicious.
On the one hand I am very pleased that I’m pregnant, because yay! Life is going according to plan, I’m going to have another perfect little baby, what bliss, etc. etc.
On the other hand, I do not remember noticing the fatigue and nausea quite this much last time around. Erik took Freya out to the playground after I took her to swimming this morning and I was going to have a fun relaxing time on my own but instead all I’ve been able to do is lie in bed and then heave myself up to make mac and cheese. I think that having a toddler and being pregnant is going to be a big challenge.

it smells like a June morning out there, which is to say, fresh and grassy and wonderful.
I have the house to myself today (besides the electrician, who is supposed to arrive imminently) and I’m off at 2:30, after which I plan to have a nap, hooray!
Supper plans are a tofu peanut noodle bowl of some kind — we have a bunch of veggies in the fridge and so much peanut butter.
