Easter Is Coming!

Easter, on one hand, is for Christians to remember the Death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ. On the other hand, it could be a holiday for festival-lovers to experience something new and exotic. As Easter traditions differ regionally, it is quite interesting to take a look at various traditions and festivals in different parts of the world. In this post, we are happy to share some unique Easter fun, so that you can make unforgettable memories with your family, friends or beloved ones.

Brazil

Let’s start with Brazil, where it has the largest population of Catholic in the world. Easter is a very important time for many Brazilians and travelers. Thus, a myriad of interesting events are held during the Easter period. In Ouro Preto, Brazil, during the Holy Week, you can see is streets colorfully decorated with religiously-themed carpets with a religious theme - such an astonishing thing! It’s definitely worth a visit, especially if you would love to be a part of their special-themed carnival. In this carnival, everyone walks on the beautifully decorated carpets on the street for about 4kms, visiting and celebrating in several churches. On top of that, there’s Carnival in Rio de Janeiro, the world's largest carnival, before Lent. This Carnival has been attracting around 2 million festival-lovers per day for almost 300 years. If you are a music and dance lover, we highly recommend you to take a visit.

Denmark

Now, let’s talk about some very family-oriented and heart-warming traditions. In Denmark, there is a quite unique Danish Easter tradition - a teaser letter. A few weeks before the Easter, children craft their own decorated letters and write teaser letters. The letters are sent anonymously, but with a number of dots that are equivalent to the number of letters in the sender’s name. Therefore, the recipient could have some fun guessing who the sender might be. The letter should be sent with a Snowdrop, which is considered to be the first flower of the year. If the recipient succeeds to guess the sender right, a chocolate Easter egg will be rewarded, and vice versa.

Lastly, like in many other countries, Easter eggs in England take an important part during the Easter, as they are a symbol of rebirth. Families gather up to enjoy Easter food, and decorate Easter eggs together. Another Easter tradition is having hot cross buns on Good Friday. "Hot Cross Bun" is a song that prays for a widow who lost her sailor son. The son asked his mother to bake hot cross buns before he went on to his journey, but he never made it back. In more recent times, the widow’s cottage has turned into a pub where British sailors come and still pray for the widow.
