I was just wondering if anyone has any tips for treating sore hocks?
For context when we first got bruce he had little bald patches on both back feet that we were instructed by the vet to watch for any redness or swelling. He slowly formed calluses on those spots (which the vet said was a good thing) and with the help of foam and fleece flooring he has had no issues since the initial vet visit.
Today I went into his area to feed him and noticed some small blood spots on the fleece, I looked him over and realized that one of his back paws was bleeding. I don’t know how he managed it but he tore one of the calluses on his hocks and it had bled. Thankfully it clotted and we were able to clean him up and make sure he had no further damage.
We have changed his bedding and made sure his area is clean and dry so it doesn’t get infected but i would really like to prevent this from happening again.
Poor little guy seemed very uncomfortable and i dont want him to be in pain.
We have a vet appointment for him in a few days to get it checked out and get a professional opinion, but i thought id ask some fellow bunny owners if they had any experience with this?
I know hock socks are a thing. Would that help?
Are there any ointments or something we can get?
He’s getting plenty of treats and we are keeping a close eye for anymore signs of discomfort and will be checking his paw again tomorrow to see if its clean so he’s in good hands but this isn’t something we have dealt with before and i could really use some advice.
