A new friend!
Apollo got to meet Mr. Hoppy-pants today! I rescued him from our Isle of Misfit Bunny Toys (poor little dude was buried under some dried pinecones, stacking cups, and other bun stuff not in our normal rotation). At least he got a warm welcome and lots of kisses!
(I was curious, so I had to look through some old posts and apparently I made him back in 2019.)
Im so weak from how much ive cried.
I brought him home to nima.
She was spooked and distressed but kept coming back to nose his fur. Then she went to sit in the litter box, just nosing in it, assuming she was searching for his scent.
When she stopped approaching, I wrapped him again and took him to where I buried milo. Where i bury my cottontails. Under my favorite tree.
I kissed him one last time.
Thank you spindle. For the years of love you gave me when I was having the roughest time. For the silly antics and the wunking out.
Teach my cottontail babies where youre going how to wunk like a pro. Ill miss you forever. And maybe even longer.
Oh sweet baby spindle you will be so missed. Binky free little guy🌈
he needs to stop looking cute and pitiful while asking for treats bc he's gonna become fat
This is the full charge for 24h hospitalization and treatment.
My repertoire and registration with them as a rehabber gave me a huge discount but the full cost is still steep.
We have raised:

Heal up spindle, Im sure you will be feeling better soon❤️
That is not my mouse?!
My mistake was doing my laundry with the door to the bedroom open which got these two into a crime scheming mood. Fizzy ran in to the room and got spooked because she knows she usually isnt allowed in there and started thumping and scrabbling around. I tried to escort her out and faygo got geeked amd ran in too (probably to steal socks) and i removed them both promptly and put a cardboard barrier. This only increased their hype
I started to shoo them away when they got near the room and it backfired because it turned into a "oo im gonna getcha" game to them (and it took me finally seeing fizzy binky off the third time I shooed her before I realized I was looped into a game) and they would not calm down from how giddy they were for an hour
My furbaby boy Garrus died of cancer yesterday. May he continue his calibrations and eat all the lettuce he wants in Valhalla.
Binky free, Garrus. 🌈

The 2026 Gender Census is now open!
[ survey.gendercensus.com ]
The 13th annual international gender census, collecting information about the language we use to refer to ourselves and each other, is now open until 13th August 2026.
It’s short and easy, for most participants it takes 5 minutes or less.
After the survey is closed I’ll process the results and publish a spreadsheet of the data and a report summarising the main findings. Then anyone can use them for academic or business purposes, self-advocacy, tracking the popularity of language over time, and just feeling like we’re part of a huge and diverse community.
If you think you might have friends and followers who’d be interested, please do reblog this blog post, and share the survey URL by email or at AFK social groups or on other social networks. Every share is extremely helpful!
Survey URL: https://survey.gendercensus.com
The survey is open to anyone anywhere who speaks English and feels that the gender binary doesn’t fully describe their experience of themselves and their gender(s) or lack thereof.
Thank you so much!

PS: You can see some regularly-updated statistics about incoming data here, with lots of demography and graphs to peruse!
I think I'm the only person who gets annoyed by this, but whatever.
Basically, in a Facebook group called “Clueless Owners,” every time the conversation turns to rabbit care, it’s a total mess.
Why? Because, in short, it’s basically a full-blown battle between breeders and pet owners—more about which side can boost their ego more by calling the other “stupid and uneducated” than about actually providing useful advice on pet/animal care.
No one cites sources; no one wants to back things up with data from verified studies. Almost everything is “this care method works because it worked for me” or “this care method is bad because I didn’t like it.” Seriously, the number of times I have to read someone stating something as an absolute truth and universal rule based on subjective experiences really pisses me off.
It’s not just about things like the never-ending debate over whether wire cages are good or not, or whether rabbits prefer to roam freely or be kept in enclosures.
There are also people actively LYING about how “rabbits aren’t social animals because they establish territories and fight over them.” Okay, domestication alters animals’ behaviors compared to their wild counterparts. But domestic rabbits are European rabbits, and by definition, they ARE social. The fact that they live in colonial groups makes them social animals, and the fact that you can see colonies of abandoned domestic/feral rabbits already tells you something about how they do seek each other out even if it's just “to reproduce” (which isn't 100% true, because even in nature, rabbits are known to form bonds with other rabbits).
That’s true if you’re talking about cottontail rabbits and hares (which we couldn’t even domesticate for that very reason). But not for rabbits whose early domestication involved keeping them in artificial burrows in large groups, because that’s their nature. There are many people who keep them in colonial settings as breeders, and it works for them. Why do you think that is? (I know that this thing also have their "cons" too, but like if the animals can live like this means something)
Now, rabbits actually have a very real and complex hierarchical system and territorial boundaries that go far beyond simply putting two rabbits together and expecting them to become friends. And of course, they have different personalities.
I agree that it’s possible to have just one pet rabbit if you know how to devote your time to it. But please stop lying about their nature as if it were a fact, denying something that is true.
The fact that rabbits are difficult to pair up doesn’t negate a basic aspect of their nature.
It’s a complex issue, blah blah blah. I don’t want to rant anymore. This whole issue of arguments over caring for these animals gives me a headache anyway, because I can never find anything that feels like a satisfactory answer.
Ugh, it’s just so damn annoying.
