Do you ever just think about how the most reblogged posts on tumblr have the same energy as tabloid rags? Like, people on this site don't care if what they’re reading is true or not, as long as it satisfies their black and white worldview and bloodthirst for watching people “get dragged”. An entire platform that will just not abide the grey area, despite us having so many characters to describe it. To explain context and nuance.
Nope, if it’s here it’s either “so pure” or it’s straight garbage.
I know it’s probably just how I’m taking it, that I’m old and obstinant and this is somehow just my resistance to change, I but see lovely posts here I wanna reblog and can’t bring myself to because they’ve got all these infantilizing additions about purity attached. We can’t fathom how exactly like our parents we are, so nobody can see past the woke-ness to the moral absolutism.
People are complicated, ourselves included. Not only are our icons mostly grey but our reasons for liking them are grey, too. No one wants to admit that because the punishment is getting that grey on our own hands. And just saying that, with no context whatsoever, some people will jump to the conclusion that I’m defending something “problematic”. Because it’s either one or the other. Pure or garbage.
But that’s just not reality, and it’s not a helpful form of idealism, either. If there’s no room for complexity in our worldview, then we’ll end up punishing people we don’t care about severely for even the appearance of minor complications but when we love someone, we’ll ignore the bad they do as long as we can -- not out of compassion for them, but so that we can claim ignorance of their wrongdoing until it’s too late. To preserve our own purity at all costs.
When forgiveness and redemption are impossible, all we’ll have left is ignorance.
Is it possible for you to upload the video of 'Pamela's First Musical' again? I'm writing a paper about it, and it'd be great to have the video as a reference. Thanks!
Dear Nonny,
the video of Pamela's First Musical (as well as any previously uploaded footage) is available to those who leave a message off-Anon in my ask, and promise not to forward the links to anybody without my knowledge.
I will gladly share with anybody, but have decided not to make material available to the general public, since the gray area of trading/sharing has gotten more tricky since they've taken down Megaupload and the likes.
Feel free to inbox me again.
There are already spoilers for next week's episode on my dash? Oh please, Degrassiland, don't become like the Glee community. I love all the Gleeks on Tumblr, but you can't turn around without getting an entire episode spoiled for you. I WANT TO WATCH MY TV SHOW WHEN IT'S HAPPENING.
