I adore the concept of transfem butch Emma and transmasc Ray and how their relationships with gender threatens to fuck up one of the codes of the farming system: skirts are for girls, pants are for boys (it helps demons identify the gender if they ever want to eat certain anatomical parts of a human and/or have a preference). Yeah it will never be canon especially considering the mama path being offered to Emma and Ray isn’t the type to go defy fate and instead give up but walk with me and have some crack for a bit.

Like. Just imagine with me for a moment.

Emma: “Hey, Ray, wanna swap clothes?”

Ray: … *blinks twice* “Huh?” *blinks once more* HUHHHH????

Emma: *ahoge curves similarly to a question mark* “Why are you surprised? You wanna wear pants right? You told me and Norman just yesterday.”

Ray: “Yeah, but…” the demons eating us might go crazy if the meat they eat is mislabeled… but I do wanna try being like a boy. Yet… “would mama even allow that?”

Emma: “Hm…” *Emma tilts her head to think. Suddenly her ahoge straightens like an exclamation point* “Why not? You wanna wear pants and I wanna try a skirt! Mama would let us because she’s mama!”

Ray: “But-”

Emma: *pouts, ahoge droops*

Ray: “Ugh… Fine. For one hour. We need to do it at nighttime though. Preferably at midnight.”

Emma: “But whyyyy? That’s so late! I WANNA WEAR A SKIRT NOW!!! NOW NOW NOW NOW NOWW-”

Isabella: “Emma! Ray! Can you tell me what is going on?”

Emma: “MAMAAAAA!!!” *puppy eyes* “I wanna swap clothes with Ray right now but Ray doesn’t wanna!”

Isabella: ??????

They (somehow) make a deal with mama where they can swap clothes and continue doing so if they’re comfortable, as long as they promise that the outfits they will wear at their shipment date is fit with their assigned gender at birth.

Emma learns that skirts aren’t the most comfortable to wear for her but that its length is lovely as she can feel the wind cool her legs while playing tag and various physical activities. Ray can be observed smiling just a tad bit more (not too much due to the demons stuck inside his head, but it’s noticeable) than before.

Gilda is a blushing mess because wow Emma looks different than usual and I kinda like it (it’s just a skirt girl calm down) and everyone else is chill about it.

Due to this, Isabella implemented their own “genderswap day” (it’s quite literally just changing fits and pronouns + the eldest lads taking care of the younger children because the concept of gender is not as elaborated in grace field but it’s the thought that counts) but if it makes the children happy then grandma won’t mind, right?

(Rumors say that Isabella altered certain official documents in the house based on her inferences regarding the children, but that’s just baseless speculation. Plant three burned down so there’s simply no point in trying to prove it.)
