“Is that —” Naruto starts, completely bewildered at the sudden flood of very familiar voices. That’s definitely Sasuke and Ino and…Sakura? What the hell.

He shares a glance with Hinata, who is as equally as bewildered as him.

...It turns out Sasuke and Ino are fighting. Like, going all out, clawing at each other but without any of the finesse they acquired as ninjas; while Sakura is crouching beside them and hiding her face in her hands and keeps muttering, “Oh my god.” Over and over again.

Naruto isn’t at all sure on what the hell Sasuke and Ino are fighting about and watches as they keep physically pushing at each other and throw insults back and forth with snarls.

“S-should we stop them?” Hinata whispers.

Naruto numbly shakes his head. He does not want to get in between that.

“Well, you have duckbutt hair!” Ino screams, and Sasuke — just stops.

There’s a brief of deeply wounded expression on his face that Naruto has never seen on him before it disappears as quick as it came, and Sasuke says, defensively, “I don’t.”

“Yes, you do. It’s the ugliest and ridiculous thing I’ve seen — how could confidently you go on a date with Sakura with that atrocity on your head!”

Sakura has stopped hiding her face and is watching this exchange with horror on her face, “Ino, don’t! Not the hair! That’s the one thing he’s —”

The warning is too late: the deeply wounded expression has appeared back on Sasuke’s face.

Ino is taken back; it’s clear she didn’t except this insult to actually work. Sakura is instantly at Sasuke’s side and cupping his face. “It’s not true, Sasuke-kun,” She murmurs, “Ino doesn’t know what she is talking about it.”

It seems to be working, whatever Sakura is doing. Naruto internally cheers you go!! sakura-chan!! but then — Sakura says, “Your duckbutt hair is beautiful,” and Naruto immediately cringes, “The way the hair sticks out is so cute.”

Its even worse because she’s every bit genuine with the way she’s smiling at Sasuke.

“Sakura —”

“I’m not lying to you,” She continues, so genuine it honestly hurts Naruto to watch this, “I mean it. Like, so okay, it might look a duckbutt but — it’s so adorable!”

“Sakura, stop. Please.”

Sasuke looks more deeply pained than before. Sakura doesn’t hear his quiet pleas and marches on. Naruto can’t watch this anymore.

“Let’s go, Hinata.” Naruto whispers, taking her hand. They go, without looking back, with expressions of deep sympathy and silent, sorry sasuke, in their hearts.

Ino isn’t as sympathetic. She’s outright laughing, and falling deeper in love, as Sakura continues her charade and even chides her for laughing at “Poor Sasuke-Kun” whilst she reminds completely oblivious. Though, Sakura doesn’t really call him that, she implies it very loudly.

Ino’s so in love with her.
