Another for @ranchstoryblog’s “Back to Basics” Event!
Day 3: Community
I opted to draw Forget-Me-Not Valley for this prompt because….I mean what a FUN and eclectic array of characters AWL and AnWL brought us. Feels like a town full of outcasts and misfits, and I sure did LOVE playing through that setting as a kiddo, I tell ya what. 😂
If I wasn’t rushing out a drawing or two a day, I think I would have opted to include more of the AnWL characters. There are so many good ones. ;w; I love that weird little community so much.
(I’m…defo vying for a remake of either AnWL or ToT. PLS.)
i finished this like, right at midnight, but pretending its still the anniversary, i threw something together ^^
bokumono means a lot to me as a series, and i was having trouble figuring out an idea for a piece that would be able to represent that. eventually, i just settled on drawing three of my favorite characters!
of course, ludus is my favorite bachelor in trio of towns, but the three lulukoko candidates in general are my favorites. these idiot siblings became comfort characters for me and i love them a lot :] i felt it was only fair to draw them for the anniversary.
though i obviously cant give it all the credit, story of seasons has played a part in helping me through a lot of hard times, and the game is overall just really special to me.
Happy birthday, Bokujou Monogatari! Here's a VN based on my playthrough of the Mineral Town Remake. Download here! https://silverxsmith.itch.io/yutosjournaldownload
I also uploaded it so it could be played on browser, but it’s unfortunately quite laggy and I don’t know enough about coding to fix it lol. That’s here: https://silverxsmith.itch.io/yutos-journal
And I’m putting the plain text script up on AO3 too: https://archiveofourown.org/works/32411656/chapters/80361382
This was just a personal project I’ve been working on for a while, but when I saw Ranch Story’s event for the anniversary was themed around “My Story of Seasons” I thought, that’s perfect! And I decided I’d polish it up and put it out there.
It's made in Renpy and is pretty simple. I used modified game assets for the portraits and backgrounds, as well as some of my own art for CGs. The script incorporates touched up versions of the in-game dialog, but is mostly original. On auto, the total time is about nine hours... but the auto speed is slow and my own test time is much faster than that.
So what’s it about? Well… It’s really just a cute fluffy gay romance. You don't marry someone based on four conversations, so I had to make more, damn it! On that note, content warning: first and foremost, it's about a relationship. In the main script there are some minor mentions of sex. And then, there are some optional scenes that go into... more detail... They are skippable! You're given the option to see them or not.
To answer the question, "What does the Story of Seasons series mean to me?" Well… Honestly, it's had a lot of influence over the years. Somehow, it's a reminder to make the most of every minute, as well as the importance of taking things slow. To appreciate the little things and the people around you. It's the reason I took up gardening and cooking. ...And now it's the reason I'm bi...
Got the next prompt finished a bit early today. Today's all about Mysterious and Mythological Creatures, and for this, I chose Witchie's design from Trio of Towns.
I loved the deity trio from this game but wanted to draw Witchie since she was my favorite.
What will the gremlin do today?
I saw some post their old SoS fanart in honor of the anniversary and it seemed fun, so I decided to join in!
Here's some of my art from around 2012 to 2014. These aren't my oldest drawings, but this is the time period when I actually started to put proper effort into these fanarts (and my art in general), so I remember this time period quite fondly art and SoS wise~
PS. I started drawing fanart for this series the moment I discovered it way back in 2005 and haven't stopped since then haha
I initially planned to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the release of the first Harvest Moon game (SNES) be replaying that first game, but... I’ve done that fairly recently already, and began to think I should replay one I hadn’t played in a long time. There are a few in the series, especially from the DS days, that I have played through only once. My eye fell on The Tale of Two Towns, since it’s the 10th anniversary of its North American release (2011).
For reference: this game is available on both the DS and the 3DS. I have the DS version. (And a DS Lite, which also hasn’t been used in...years, lol. Glad I found it and its charging cord without much trouble...)
I played through this game for a while after it was first released. I played as a female, chose Konohana as my first town, married Kana, and played up until I had a kid. I moved two Bluebell once, and eventually returned to Konohana. My main memories of this game are making lots and lots of toast to make money, and running all over the mountain on my horse. Seriously, that’s about...it, haha.
So this time I decided to would choose Bluebell. And went with my real name (sorta) because I couldn’t be bothered to think of something else.
Hehe. I made a funny. Or tried to. OK, I’ve used this name for ages because it’s silly.
Yeah? Don’t tell me what to do with my land, bub. I’ll make it a farm if I feel like it.
Call that theft protection. No one will steal a horse if they think it’s a donkey, right?
Actually, I really like the horse in this game. I immediately saw how useful the cart and horse are! You can literally take your storage with you. That is one of the best features of this game!
Running around town the first time, I realized I remembered a lot of the villagers, especially these two:
Why are you not marriageable? Sigh. Actually, on that note: I went into the game with absolutely no inclination toward any of the bachelors, figuring I’ll just focus on establishing myself as a farmer first, and then remembered Ash. He’s adorable! I might go for him, but. eh... We’ll see. It’s still very early.
I love this guy too. Don’t worry, I would never insult a panda or a crazy guy in a panda suit. It looks good on you, Sheng. (He’s the blacksmith, by the way.)
Running around the mountain, I remembered that you can catch fish with your bare hands in a couple of places! ‘Noodling’ is what we call that around here. Seems like a good way to make a bit of money.
And then, the Goddess came to tell l me this...
I remember that now too! Participating in the cooking festivals (which are just about every week, barring a festival) are how you progress through the story of this game. I may not be able to participate in the first few, but I read up on them and realized you can cheer on your town, so I’ll do that!
I’m so glad there are now so many guides about this game available. That will make things easier. It’s very much like learning a new game, though I do remember a bit more than I thought I would. It’s still rather tiring, but I’m having fun.
I don’t know how much I will post about my playthrough, but... I’ll try to post sometimes! At the very least, I highly encourage anyone who has any of the old games lying around, a system to play them on, and some free time, while not try delving into a game you haven’t played in a while? It’s a lot of fun!
