I didn't have time to post a song yesterday. So I don't know if I should count this as yesterday's song or as today's and just skip yesterday. ._. I guess I'll have to see how busy I am today and if I'll have time find a new song.
Alright. Another old-school song (though this one isn't as old as "500 Miles"). Old-school rap. I don't really like rap that much, but I guess Will Smith is an exception for now.
So "Miami" is one of the songs on Will's first solo album 'Big Willie Style'. "Men in Black" became the most popular song on the album along with three other hit singles, "Gettin' Jiggy wit it", "Miami", and "Just the Two of Us". This album and the singles in it became popular around the world, like in the UK and Canada. 'Big Willie Style' was certified 9x Platinum in 2000 for selling over 9 million copies in the USA alone. Worldwide this album has sold over 14 million copies, making it one of the best-selling rap albums ever.
I first heard of this song from a Tom Hiddleston interview (actually two interviews) where he rapped some of "Miami". I've been meaning to listen to it and other Will Smith songs but never got the chance to (or just completely forgot what the songs were. ._.)
So I've finally listened to Will's singles ("Men in Black", "Gettin' Jiggy wit it", and "Just the Two of Us") and "Miami". To me, "Miami" is the most catchy out of all of them (and so, I like it more. i really need to stop liking songs that are only more catchy than others). Apparantly, "Miami" was a different style than Will's other songs, which contributed to its popularity. And, I can see where that's coming from because it does sound different. It's got some more beats in it...if that makes any sense... It's got a more hip-hop-ish feel to it, I think. I just think it catches my eye more than his other songs. And it has little bits of Spanish (actually, it's only 'bienvenido a miami', mira, and 'ay papi'), fitting for what the song is about. So yeah... I just like "Miami" more than the other Will Smith songs. I dunno how else to explain it other than that it's a catchier song.
