The "extraction" of a soul is a difficult task much different than a "non-host-soul". A non-host soul is a soul an entity has acquired. "Contracted" souls are categorized as such, as well as "given" or "stolen" souls, all of which are rather easily "transferred" or "collected". A"host-soul" however Is the soul originally "designated to " or "owned" by an entity and is much harder to remove and near impossible for some species and individuals, the "extraction" of such a soul requires the severing of the personality and what we can best put into human terms as "soul-threads" or "life strings", these attach an entity to its soul like a ball suspended inside a shell by twine. And it gains difficulty of the entity does not wish to be truley "separated" from their soul in which case a very specific "life string" is left intact and stretched, this can also effectively "trap" or "confine" a person to one area which can range in size from a building to a "solar system", the act of "stretching" the specific "soul-thread" takes extreme precision and concentration as this is the last thing attaching the entity to its soul and life force. The "life strings" are not what can be described as a physical object but more relatable to what humans would describe as "astral" or "enlightened" being able to pass through most things. After said soul is removed with the one remaining "life string" our colleagues wouldn't generally "secure" it within our "facilities" in which it can be cared for. If however the last "soul-thread" is severed, based on the species of the entity 3 things will happen and rarely a fourth. 1. The entity will "die" or cease to "live". 2. The entity will suffer until "death". 3. The entity will be unaffected. And on rare occasions said entity's "shell" will attempt to acquire another soul and sometime multiple by force meaning nearby souls are "torn" or "ripped" from other nearby entities and "absorbed" into the shell Which has lead to multiple extinctions of entire species. However if a host dies while its soul is still connected to the host entity through the "life string" it will sever and the last of the host will be "imprinted" or "etched" into the soul. In such cases we "curate" such souls untill the declared new "owner" claims them. We have never known another species which can "extract" the soul from a living entity and keep both "alive". We still search for others but in the "trillions" "light years" we have existed we have found none. We have discovered a soul can be "protected" or "hidden" but not removed by others.
