multiple eyes so you get a couple of bits ive been kinda wanting to share
Tessa bit her lip looking down at the screen in front of her. Lines and lines of private personal data scrawled across the screen. "It's probably better if our codes match, so we don't get any surprises."
"And if the people with the codes are still alive? We run into either of them?"
"I'll make sure they're both dead," Tessa said, chewing harder on her lip. "I have all the records right here. I can find deceased couples."
"So who matches with who?"
"Uhh. Stephan, you'll match with Skye. Jaime and Evelyne? And Cy... sorry but we won't be able to do anything for yours."
"I know. Too hard to convincingly cover it up and change... Who do you match with? Weren't you saying it's risky—"
"I guess I won't... it'll be fine..."
Cyrus sighed a little, before offering up his wrist. "Check mine in the database. Maybe my match is dead."
Tessa hesitated for a moment before copying Cyrus' code into the program. It took a few seconds for the results to process, but it wasn't long before a file opened on the screen. Two faces side by side with a small biography of personal details beside.
He shifted a little peering over Tessa's shoulder and giving the information a quick glance. Taking note of the information, and giving a satisfied nod before Tessa had a moment to process it. "Good news. She's dead."
Tessa let out a breath. "I'm sorry, Cy—"
"For what? I didn't know her."
"You don't honestly buy into it do you? The soulmate thing. It's bullshit, the entire thing."
Jaime scrunched their face as they turned towards Tessa. "How can you stand to go up there so often?"
"What are you talking about?" Tessa asked. "You're up there all the time. More than I am."
"For work. Because I have to. And I never stay longer than needed. I just... feel wrong when I'm up there. Like I'm not myself."
"That's cuz you're not." Cyrus interjected from across the room.
"No one is. They take your conciousness and transfer it into an android, and then transfer it back when you leave."
"What are you talking about, Cy?"
"It's not a teleporter. It's a computer. It's a lot easier to transfer a file up into space then it is an organism."
"Wait. So, you're saying, the Lift... Just copies you? Into an android."
"Tess, I thought you of all people would've known this."
