“Spike has a soul now, that should mean something. If you continue to hold his soulless actions over his head, that is very unfair to do so. We didn't do it with Angel/Angelus. We don't hold a Souled Faith accountable still, or a Souled Willow, who mindraped Tara and then was physical with her. Or Anya for her Souled actions that lead to massacre. For some reason beyond me, only Spike gets to be blamed forever, when a Souled Spike would never do this. And a soulless Spike felt so bad, he went and got soul. I don't know why this is, maybe because the others are all women, and Angel vs Angelus had a bigger contrast. But it shouldn't matter souled is souled, soulless is soulless. And the show created this concept for a reason.”
👌 I suppose I wouldn’t be so bothered about the soul-having thing with Spike if everybody with a soul was made accountable for their actions. Dark Willow though - did she have a soul? Considering I interpret her as a vengeance demon, I don’t think she does. Or she was at least quickly losing it. But yeah, Willow with a soul definitely needed to be held accountable.
One of the most interesting things - if anything - when watching Season 7 for me was how they paralleled Angel and Willow with their evil alter egos. How Willow talks about not being able to control herself from turning into the Big Bad again if she had sex with Kennedy. Extremely similar to how Angel can’t have “one moments happiness’ without turning into Angelus. It’s a long way off yet but I will go in more depth with this parallel when I get to my recap of ‘Touched’. Not everything is the same, obviously. I mean Angelus was a monster that was unredeemable. Dark Willow wasn’t. Mostly because Willow and Dark Willow are not two entirely different entities. But it is definitely a significant parallel they draw with Angel and Willow that I wish they had delved more into. Especially since she made an appearance on his show.
Once again, another missed opportunity for main character interaction and relationship development. Hell, even if it was Faith. Would have still been better than Kennedy because as touching as that scene with them was,… she still didn’t fucking understand her.
