Part 1
This has turned into Soulix AU ramblings because it's a slow day today and I am now very passionate about this ship.
But South and Felix not being truthful to one another. Lying about who they are, not their names, per se (well I mean Felix only knows South as South anyway) and not about their jobs (he works for the UNSC she works for a splinter group, there's no further need to ask questions, that's not what either of them is here for) but about their personalities. About what they're really like under their thick layers of pretence.
It takes Felix forever to figure out just how vicious and unapologetic South can be. She's quick to anger, but also sarcastic with a tendency to turn everything into a mean-spirited joke. She never betrays her ambition, her jealousy of anyone who has it better than her, who can do more than her, or at least who is perceived to. Sometimes she even envies Felix; his easy going nature, the way he knows what his next mission will entail, the way he's not being actively pitched and measured up against people he should trust with his life.
But it takes her just as long to realize that Felix is a power junkie. That he'd trade anything to be in control, to be stronger, faster, richer, better looking than everyone around him. He would, and does kill for it. Every now and again she sees cracks of it in his lengthy rants, feels it in the way he holds her. She pushes back every time - she's not something he owns - but she wonders if they really are all that different. She wonders if that part of him that she doesn't get to see would like the part of her that just wants to destroy and conquer.
Neither of them are aware that if they ever did team up, in a professional sense, they'd burn out quicker than a short wick. They're also probably unaware of how much damage they could cause together.
Which is why no one should tell them.
Oh man but Soulix. South being taller than Felix. Can you imagine?
