Day 8: Heartless
sin alma, sin corazón...
To further your point about Cas being Dean’s faith.... you probably saw it but the official SPN twitter tweeted “always have faith” after tonight’s ep.
Haha, I love it when things I say make sense. Thanks for letting me know.
I basically consider faithless Dean, Soulless!dean at this point. This is what Dean looks like without “anything left.” This isn’t just darkness for Dean, this is Advanced Darkness.
Why is the gif I want never in the list??
Anyway, this is another level deeper than s7 because everyone died at once here. Dean thought it was just a one fell swoop, what he had hoped for was gone. Sam has a similar reaction to the “death” of Mary as we hear in the ep, but he approaches it differently, because it effects him differently.
We got a little bit of faith in the world returning to Dean at the end there… When Cas literally returned to the world. Dean’s faith was in the empty, he was awakened, and then slowly pulled out of the void back to Dean’s heart through the events in the ep. Eventually, they will rejuvenate back where they were. Needs time to heal, probably a lot of time. They’ve been through a lot.
Technically Cas is part of Dean in an extremely off the board allegorical sense… someday I’ll explain it more, but it will probably only make perfect sense once the show ends. I do love me some layered narrative… Ignore me, I’m yelling about weird things again.
Cas got a magical coat again. I knew that stupid coat was entirely symbolic… Cas is still a penguin.. *mumbles*
Title: The Dark Side of Apple Pie Artist: darklittleheart96 Author: anon1adult Other Pairing(if applicable): Rating: Explicit Warnings/Spoilers: Rape/Non-con Elements || Rope Bondage Summary: Dean took a chance to set things right but it was foolish to think a knife would end God's Sister.
Almost as foolish as thinking she wouldn't take his soul. Sam knows there is something wrong with his brother, but Dean's spike in kinky has him running on too much of an endorphin high to figure out what it is.

Supernatural fan fiction: "Baggage Transfer" Chapter 2: "
Part two to Baggage Transfer. Soulless Dean wants to know more about Sam's mystery girlfriend.
___
"You went out to see her, didn't you? Your girlfriend. Is she...do you love her?"
Sam was halfway out of his jacket when Dean started speaking. Dean's body seems like it doesn't need the same kind of stimulation, like it can actually stay still.
Sam is outright staring. He was startled by Dean's voice, but now he's contemplating the question and really wishes he wasn't.
❛ i only ask for your laughter ❜
Dean prodded the crumbled pie crust with the tines of the fork and scooped the bite into his mouth, chewing without much enthusiasm. “I’m sorry, Cas.” His eyes remained fixed on the plate as he went through the motions of eating until the rest of the dessert was gone. Setting down the fork, he scrubbed his mouth with the back of his hand and stood, gathering the dishes to place in the hotel room’s small sink. “I appreciate the sentiment, really, I do, but that’s not something I can give you right now.”
Finally, he allowed his eyes to lift and connect with the angel’s narrow, blue gaze. Nothing. No sparks, no guilt, no sadness… nothing. Crossing the room, he gave the angel a light pat on his shoulder as he passed. “You really don’t need to worry. I’m fine.” He tugged his shirt over his head and kicked off shoes and socks before climbing into bed. It was a pointless exercise, he hadn’t slept since….
Blowing out a breath, he sat up and leaned back against the pillows and headboard. “What do you do all night, anyway? Besides stare at me and Sam while we sleep.” When all else had faded, his restless energy seemed to have been heightened by the loss of his soul. It was hard to sit still, and the days were all that much longer for lack of real desire to eat and sleep and lounge. He wanted to get out there and hunt, but Castiel and Sam seemed determined to keep him under lock and key.
In his current state, it would be far too easy for Michael to get the ‘yes’ he wanted. “Come on, Cas. There has to be a case somewhere. You can go with me. I’ll stay right beside you. I’ll even hold your hand when we cross the street like a good boy.”

A reponse to this post about what soulless!Dean might be like. (Started March 29th, 2014.) For @agelade
Cas brings Dean back from Hell, but he's no better at bringing a soul back the first time than he was the second.
___
"So, where is it?" she snarks. "The pizza that's, like, an hour late."
Dean looks over her and there he is. Sam. He pushes her to the side, steps into the room, and Sam's on him, which he expected, because Bobby tried to do the same.
Hey Jenny :) I'm a big fan of your metas, and I was wondering what you imagine Soulless!Dean to look like, as compared to Sam and all. Thanks!
Hello sweetie!
Thank you *hugs* It means a lot to know you enjoy my writing. That is actually a good question as I have pondered the possibility a few times over the past two weeks if maybe the season could end with Dean "dying" or rather his soul getting consumed and Sam and Cas being left with Dean's empty vessel.
I guess I would find it interesting if the show was to go there, to make Soulless!Dean very different to Soulless!Sam, because as the show has been emphasizing the past couple of seasons, it seems every person has a different reaction to losing their soul. Granted, even Len, probably the most mellow soulless person we have met on the show yet, turned violent at some point, but overall he just felt empty and mourned his lost self.
What makes it difficult in Dean's case is also that this version would have to be decidedly different to Demon!Dean, but the parts I could imagine Soulless!Dean to be would overlap with Demon!Dean quite heavily as I think it would be likely or interesting if Soulless!Dean wasn't feeling the attachment to Sam the way he currently does, but was more self focused. That all we had with Demon!Dean though, even the impulsiveness and short temper that could go hand in hand with soullessness were explored in that time, so it would not be new. Therefore I think Soulless!Dean would have to be different to all that and that brings me to something I haven't pondered in a while, but that popped up in my head again when you sent this ask and I was letting my mind wander.
And that is how I personally always thought 2014!Dean, the hardened, seeming cold blooded, empty, broken man we saw in that scenario, to me always felt like working as a Soulless!Dean version. And that made me think about the set up we currently have in late S11 going into S12.
Endverse was a post-apocalyptic world, which is where the story now is too. And there are massive parallels that could be working in a slightly changed up endverse. Lucifer told Sam in 11x10 "The Devil in the Details" that "he'd have to be ready to die and ready to watch the people he loves die". If you think about it, you could understand this as coming to pass by Sam saying yes to Lucifer (even though I find it unlikely for him to do, but for the sake of this thought experiment let's say he does to free Cas and he believes he can overpower Lucifer again) and losing the battle against him and Lucifer remaining in control while fitting Amara who he locks away in again in the Empty together with Dean's soul. Leaving Dean soulless as his hardeneded, shell version of himself topside. Cas in the process of having been tortured by Amara while Lucifer possessed him lost his powers and becomes human. The desperate and disillusioned mindset we see in 2014!Cas and his need for escapism are both character traits we have seen in Cas this season too, so he also could develop into becoming his 2014 self that stayed with Soulless!Dean because they are all they had left.
Much like Sam saying yes to Lucifer would count as death of who he was, Dean without a soul is also the death of the Dean we know. We would be left with two main characters as alternate versions of themselves, which is something I can't the see the show doing. I don't think they'll ever go endverse, but one has to admit they could make a slightly different version of it work without any trouble.
I mean, just think of the end battle between Lucifer and Amara or God and the Darkness as a consequence would unleash a virus, the one we saw in the beginning of the season seemed very comparable to the croatoan virus after all. And now we even know that Chuck Shurley returns to SPN, another characters also present in endverse.
So while I don't think endverse in a slightly alternate version would ever come to pass, the set up could easily lead there. Given all that and in relation to Dean, I think 2014!Dean could be how Soulless!Dean would be as he was decidedly different to Demon!Dean.

Am I the only one who think Dean lost his soul ?
