       her face brightens with an amusement, head turning slightly to stare over at rachel with eyebrows raised. “ how screwed up are our lives if i’m getting the pep talk from my daughter?– shouldn’t i be the one building you up? ” she teases, hand reaching over to tuck a red hair behind rachel’s ear in an affectionate manner. “ i know. guess at this point it’s hard not to be terrified of truly living. ”

          It’s still there; the glow of warmth she gets from her mother’s touch, a sense of comfort that emanates from the brushed shell of her ear, more pungent than the feeling she gets from just being in her presence, just knowing she’s back. She manages to keep it from her expression, knowing how the reverent gazes she gets back at the school vex Jean, but she’s certain she’s read it in her thoughts regardless -- a knowledge that surprisingly annoys her not at all. All the angst of the past is gone. Now, there are no secrets between them. “I think we should more afraid of not living at all.”
